Indie-pop duo Giant Killers are back with their second single, “Around the Blocks”, from their debut album Songs From The Small Places. Released on August 2, 2024, via Little Genius Recordings, the track is a nostalgic ode to the communities that shaped the band’s members, Jamie Wortley and Michael Brown.

“Around the Blocks” captures the essence of growing up in overlooked communities and the perseverance of those who navigate life without the advantages of a head start. The song, originally a live favorite during the band’s days opening for Blur and touring with Dr. Robert (Blow Monkeys) and Nick Heyward in the 1990s, has been given a fresh 2024 makeover, aiming to resonate with new audiences.

Giant Killers, who were signed to MCA Records in 1995 but saw their original album shelved, have recently regained the rights to their music, leading to a resurgence of interest in their work. The duo’s return has been met with widespread acclaim, with multiple outlets praising their “timeless appeal” and “deft songwriting charm”.

In addition to their recording success, the band has become a favorite on BBC Radio 5 Live, where they recently performed in the live lounge ahead of the England v Spain Euros final. Their video performance at the Teddy Rocks Festival in Dorset further solidified their place in the hearts of fans old and new.
