The MC Showroom will be pumping come October for Melbourne Fringe Festival 2024 with Amy Winehouse tales, tunes and possibly tears as Carol Whitfield returns with her show Beyond the Beehive: The Musical Mastery of Amy Winehouse.
Backed by her 4-piece band, Carol presents a show that impresses with quotes, anecdotes, laughter and a tear-jerker finish. This is a show for those who loved Winehouse or those who love cabaret, a great night out and to get involved in what’s happening in Fringe. It’s good news to those in the outer suburban suburbs that you can still get to the Fringe at venues like the MC Showroom, and what better way than supporting local Melbourne talent like Carol Whitfield.
Most people associate the tabloid stories, addiction and tragic loss of life to Amy, however Carol reveals so much more to the superstar than meets the eye. Winehouse was a Grammy-winning, masterful musician who set the musical world alight. She introduced new audiences to the rich history of jazz, gospel, soul, Motown, 60s girl groups and hip-hop and worked with iconic artists such as Tony Bennet. Carol expertly weaves the fascinating story of her music around a collection of hits and rarities.
The show promises to leave audiences dancing in the aisles and singing along to all the songs they know and love. Winehouse lovers are left pining for a talent gone too soon.
