PRUDNS

”WHYDOU’ is distinguished by its atmospheric synth arrangement and club beats’ – Music Feeds

‘buoyant & bouncy’ – Pilerats

“I want people to feel inspired, connected, free, powerful, and vibrant when they listen to my music. I want people to feel empowered, no matter what they are going through. I want my music to resonate with people like me, the artists, the highly sensitive, the feelers, the queers. I want people with big feelings to know that they are normal and beautiful.” – Prudns

Breathe in the blossoming inner world of alt-pop aesthete and multidisciplinary producer Prudns with their new single ‘WHYDOU‘ out Thursday 5 October; the next release from their debut album NEXT.

As one of the country’s most exciting new acts, Prudns’ debut album NEXT invites listeners old and new to take solace in theexquisitemusical oasis they have so prudently built. Due for release on Friday 3 November via GyrostreamNEXT promises a transformative art-pop experience, unearthing an entire sonic galaxy adorned with rosy synths, powerful vocals, and energetic dnb syncopations. The release will be followed by a series of album parties at secret locations across Meanjin, Eora, and Naarm.

Laden with passion-soaked lyrics, ‘WHYDOU‘ conveys the emotional intensity and dizzying heights of heartache. Soaked in y2k nostalgia, complete with orchestral strings, snappy risers, and hyperkinetic club beats, the song ends in a triumphant reverb-drenched electric guitar solo from Naarm based musician, Nick VargasPrudns’ friend and bandmate. Entirely written, recorded and produced by Prudns during a music residency at 4000 Studios in Meanijn, WHYDOU is out Thursday 5 October via Gyrostream.
“I wrote WHYDOU in an hour. The lyrics are a stream of consciousness propelled by frustration and passion about a relationship.” – Prudns

‘WHYDOU’ out Thursday 5 October via Gyrostream + Bandcamp

A fervent and richly melodic odyssey, NEXT delves into the brightest hues of love and darkest corners of betrayal. The songs melodically reflect on the seminal relationships that shaped the beginning of Prudns’ twenties—both romantic and platonic—in all their beautiful and complicated forms.

“NEXT is like looking through my diary. Each song is a story about the relationships that have taught me about myself, love, pain and meaning over the last eight years” – says Prudns.

Paved by Prudns’ love of club beats and burning power ballad energetics, the sanctuary of stories takes the listener on a heartfelt  journey. From the angsty beginnings of the title track ‘NEXT’, to the bouncy personal growth of ‘Riddle’ and ‘Goodnight’. Followed by a fierce beat in ‘Like a dream’ and intricate incantations of love lost in ‘Looking at You‘ and ‘Empty words‘ and finally, ‘Unfriend (demo)‘ – a piano ballad recorded on their childhood piano in 2019. The songs traverse vibrantly through an ever-changing palette of moods, sounds, and colours, leaving no stone unturned.

‘”NEXT” sums up everything that this album is about. A reflection on the past, acknowledging the present, and anticipating the future. NEXT symbolises that there is a change afoot – something is around the corner, I just don’t know what it is” – Prudns

Prudns released their debut EP Tinka in 2021 which saw them selected for multiple songwriting and mentorship programs, including the AIR Women In Music Mentor Program, the ALWAYS LIVE 321 Songwriting Sessions, and the Airlock Studios Immersive Program based in Pru’s current home of Brisbane. Collaborating with the likes of NineTiss, Velvet Bloom, and MirabelPrudns’ has performed with Telenova on the Melbourne leg of their 2022 tour and their self-taught production prowess has received radio radio play across major local and national radio stations Triple J, Triple R, PBS, 4ZZZ, JOY FM and SYN.

‘WHYDOU’ Lyrics
Try to talk but I broke my jaw

Try to fly but I always fall

Take my hand I want you

Feel my heart and feel it boom

Don’t you want a little love from me?

Don’t you want a little ecstasy?

Don’t you know you love me?

Thought you said you loved me

Never say I’m feeling low

Forgave you when you broke my trust

Never want to tear you down

Never want to live without

Never want to say goodbye

Even though you made me cry

Paid for all the fires you start

Why do you force us apart?

No I never get enough

No I never get enough

No I never get enough

No I never get enough

Come on baby let’s paint the town

We take it off and I take you out

Like we used to go late at night

Spend our money and pay the price

You and I were overdrawn

You and I would talk till dawn

Now we act like strangers

Work has got us rearranging

Maybe when I’m feeling blue

Maybe I’ll make love to you

When I held your hand last night

A single tear fell from my eye

You and I were a perfect pair

You got lost and now I’m here

I can’t move without you now

Come on baby let’s paint the town

No I never get enough

No I never get enough

No I never get enough

No I never get enough
