The Intersection of Music and Film: Vaibhav Chauhan’s Evolution from India to London

Popular Reads

In the vibrant intersection of music and film, Vaibhav Chauhan has emerged as a bold, boundary-pushing artist. Born in India and now based in London, Chauhan’s unique blend of hip-hop, trap, and local slang has evolved into an exploration of R&B trap soul, redefining the genre with a distinctly Indian flair. “As a child, I always wanted to tell stories to the world,” Chauhan reflects. This passion for storytelling, nurtured through an early love of music and film, remained a well-kept secret during his youth, as his family prioritized more conventional career paths.

Chauhan’s creative journey took a decisive turn when he joined Bollywood veteran Shakti Kapoor on the horror-comedy Shootiyapa as an assistant director. It was during this project that he boldly pitched his musical ideas, leading to the opportunity to compose the film’s title track. The experience solidified his vision of merging his two passions: music and storytelling.

His success in Bollywood caught the attention of South Indian cinema, where Chauhan worked on projects with renowned actor Prithviraj Sukumaran. These experiences, rich in diversity and collaboration, allowed Chauhan to refine his craft and develop a distinctive artistic voice that stood out in India’s vibrant entertainment landscape.

In 2021, Chauhan took a significant leap, relocating to London to pursue a Master’s in Film Directing at the prestigious Met Film School in Ealing. The transition was both challenging and transformative. “Coming to London was like starting from scratch,” Chauhan recalls. “I had limited resources, but I knew I had to create my own path.”

With no prior connections or financial backing, Chauhan began producing videos for London-based artists, often working pro bono in exchange for studio time to create his own music. His persistence paid off, as his Hindi music found resonance even among audiences unfamiliar with the language. “To enjoy music, you don’t need to understand the language—you just need to feel it,” he says.

Chauhan’s London experience not only helped him gain recognition in the music scene but also deepened his understanding of visual storytelling. As a creative director, he now applies filmmaking principles to his music videos, enhancing their narrative and emotional impact. This multidimensional approach has allowed him to expand his artistic vision, combining his skills in both music and film to craft compelling stories.

Chauhan’s journey exemplifies resilience and adaptability. His efforts have garnered a supportive following in London, where his music and visuals have been praised for their authenticity and innovation. His ability to bridge cultures through his art reflects his global perspective and deep-rooted commitment to storytelling.

Chauhan’s latest single, Woofer, set to release later this month, is poised to solidify his reputation as a genre-defying artist. This track showcases his evolving musical style and his ability to connect with listeners across the globe.

Looking ahead, Chauhan continues to defy boundaries and expectations, carving out his own space in the worlds of music and film. His story is one of resilience, creativity, and an unwavering dedication to his craft, inspiring other aspiring artists to pursue their passions regardless of the challenges. As Vaibhav Chauhan pushes forward, the world will undoubtedly be watching and listening, eager to witness the next chapter of his remarkable journey.
