“Change begins at the end of your comfort zone” – Roy T. Bennett. And with those words Mathilde SPZ launches her solo project and takes on the task of tearing down the “jantelov”. Her personal goal is to inspire people to be themselves by inviting people to join in her own journey to become the person she always felt that she was- the quirky diva in tons of colors. Her musical goal is to merge the Scandinavian sound with Dance/House and to make people dance.
The last 8 years Mathilde SPZ has been the most used live-artist in the event market in Norway. She´s performed at the biggest festivals in Norway including Øya, Stavern, Slottsfjell and Findings with several artists/projects but are now ready to step out of the comfort zone doing her own thing in her own way.

We sat down with the artist to learn more about her.

• “Unforgettable” has such a catchy, high-energy vibe! What’s the most unforgettable moment you’ve had while creating or performing this track? Any wild studio or stage stories?
Thank you so much! This track was written a while ago but I actually redid the vocals in my living room this summer and it wasn’t easy- I live in a flat so I usually do my recordings when my neighbors are at work but this month there was some heavy construction work right outside in the street all month and I had to time my takes in between the workers breaking up the asphalt and bulldozing around :p Luckily we managed to piece it together without the «brrrrrrrrr» in between :p

• You’ve said you want people to dance no matter their mood—what’s the one song that always gets you dancing, no matter where you are? And do you have a go-to dance move we should all try?
Ah, I always dance! But if «Don’t Start Now» by Dua Lipa comes on I cannot stay still even if it’s at the airport or a restaurant or wherever- That beat just hit my body like a seagull in the waves.

• You’ve performed at Norway’s biggest festivals and lit up the Melodi Grand Prix stage—if you could create your dream festival lineup with any artists (living or dead), who would be on it, and what would the vibe be?

I have to have Avicii as a headliner, and maybe he could do a collab gig with Swedish House Mafia-That would be epic! And I think I would want Florence + the Machine to start of the day- I ́ve seenher a couple of times and she is just amazing on stage! Then I would love for RÜfÜS DU SOL to go on- Imagine they do a set in the afternoon while the sun is up and you sip a beer. Ah… And then Dua Lipa would get the party started before Rita Ora do a collab gig with Tïesto! (This festival would cost a lot!! Ha ha!) If MJ was alive I think that he and SHM could have created some magic too. I love festivals with a variety but the vibe has to be «singalongy» and have to go from chill dancing to club-that’s me :p

• With over 2.7 million streams, you’re clearly resonating with a lot of people. If you could
challenge your fans to do one thing after listening to your music, what would it be? Bonus
points if it’s something bold or unexpected!
If they could put on their wildest outfit and go out dancing in the street that would be so cool!! People who wears extravagant clothes or a lot of colors, or those who skip and sing in public are always look at as weirdoes but in my case, the times I want to skip and sing down the street or maybe wear my most colorful ball gown I’m just in a really good mood! I tend to do a little dance at the gym or forget myself and sing loud on the street and I belive the ones around me thinks I am crazy but what if everybody just dares to follow their instinct when they are happy!? I think the world would become a better place (for you and meeeeee!)

• What’s coming next for you?
I have a lot of releases coming up but not until next year… My catalogue is not very «Christmasy» so to release anything else close to Christmas is not a smart move but as soon as the Holidays are over I will start pumping out dance tunes again! And hopefully there will be even more liveshows coming up- Who knows? Maybe I’ll play outside of Norway even 😉 But rest assure- I will not hibernate :p
