North Carolina-based producer duo FRGN-SPCMN (Ronnie Belle and André Jones) have unveiled their latest project, RIDE AROUND THE SUN, an album that transports listeners through a dynamic fusion of hip-hop, R&B and experimental beats. Known for their forward-thinking production, FRGN-SPCMN have already made waves in the industry with major placements for Coast Contra, Lance Skiiiwalker of TDE and contributions to the soundtrack of Issa Rae’s Insecure (Season 5). Now, they take the spotlight with a deeply personal, atmospheric album crafted in their home studio.
RIDE AROUND THE SUN offers a chill, late-night cruising vibe, anchored by laid-back tempos and evocative soundscapes. The standout title track, featuring Mez and Ace Henderson, serves as the album’s emotional core and is accompanied by an animated music video directed by Kieran Ionescu. Speaking on the track, FRGN-SPCMN explain, “It talks about the ideas of pain and pleasure throughout our lives and how you can’t have one without the other. The combination of both feelings is what describes our lives and the ride around the sun.”
The concept of the album took shape after a transformative trip to Joshua Tree, California, where the duo found inspiration in the desert’s vast landscapes. “We wanted the album to feel like an off-road adventure in the middle of the desert”, they share. The result is a sonic exploration of life’s journey, blending jazz, R&B, hip-hop and classical influences. With prominent guitar twangs and textured percussion, the album evokes a rich, sun-soaked terrain that feels both familiar and otherworldly.
“The idea behind this album is that everyone on this planet has a unique story”, say FRGN-SPCMN. “Even with our different paths in life, the one thing that we all have in common is that we are all navigating the chaos of human existence together, sharing this endless ride around the sun.”
