Well, here we are again in Lockdown 4.0 Melbourne. We know what to do, we’ve been here before. Let’s hope we are back doing all the things that Melbourne offers very soon.
The gallery is closed, and we are all back working from home. Like the last lockdown, our little team has got together to provide you with a host of great content for you to explore and inspire your day.

NATASHA BIENIEK > CONNECTING WITH NATURE
Natasha Bieniek’s current solo exhibition, Halcyon, is a celebration of the green spaces that mean so much to us all. The artist believes that time spent in nature and in gardens improves our mental wellbeing. Her exhibition encapsulates the calm and tranquillity that can be found when we connect with nature.
If you’re a St Kilda local, then you will recognise the scene captured above is of one of St Kilda’s own green gems – the St Kilda Botanic Gardens. If you’re lucky enough to have this space within your 5KM radius, or any green space for that matter, maybe consider prioritising a daily dose of the green stuff to keep yourself feeling fine.

Ruth Höflich’s current exhibition, To Feed Your Oracle, was inspired by the WG Alma Conjuring Collection, held at the State Library of Victoria. William George Alma (1904–93) was an Australian magician and manufacturer of conjuring apparatus and props. His collection of books, photos, posters and research notes on every aspect of magic and conjuring contains over 4,000 items.
If you have a budding magician in your house, here are some simple magic tricks to practice. We don’t recommend researching how to saw your sister in half….that is not magic and will leave scars!
These tricks require some patience and dexterity to master.

Vipoo Srivilasa’s paintings in Wellness Deity explore the artist’s personal experience of overcoming some of the negative thoughts that he encountered during Melbourne’s second lockdown. Vipoo channelled these uncomfortable feelings into positive thoughts for self-improvement seeing him emerge with new skills, having ventured into painting, a new medium that has expanded his artistic practice.

FIRST NATIONS DESIGN COMMISSION
Are you a fabulous First Nations Designer with a great idea? Or do you know someone who is?
We need you to submit an application that responds to the theme of Home. The work will feature in Design Fringe (the reimagined Furniture Fringe) that the Linden teams will present in partnership with our good friends at the Melbourne Fringe Festival.
The successful applicant will receive a total fee of $10,000 plus GST. Applications close soon on Wednesday 2 June 2021.

THINGS THAT MADE US HAPPY
The Netflix series Nailed It! takes cake artistry to a whole new level, with surprising and hilarious results. In the latest season, themed Double Trouble, home-baking enthusiasts battle it out in pairs to recreate edible masterpieces by head judge Jacques Torres, famous French pastry chef and chocolatier who also goes by the moniker ‘Mr. Chocolate’. It’s a recipe for giggles and culinary mishaps, hosted by the effervescent American comedian Nicole Byer. If you’re looking to lift your lockdown baking game this time around, Nailed It! is a playful guide to the dos and don’ts of novelty cake-making.
We’ve all seen images of cars backed up at COVID testing sites across Melbourne, but sometimes it’s not just humans waiting patiently in their vehicles. ‘Swab Dogs of Insta’ features more than 280 snaps of furry friends – dogs and (unimpressed) cats – accompanying their humans as they queue up to be swabbed. We all need a little bit of animal joy at the moment, and this page truly delivers. Do you recognise any of these treasured pets?
