Yarra City continues to champion local artists and support community mental health amidst
Victorian mental health data reaching a five-year high.
In November 2024, the One Eighty Collective, a Melbourne-based self-taught calligraphy street artist, will present “Awareness for the Rebellious” – a free art exhibition supported by the Yarra City Council through the 2024 annual arts grant. This event will feature wellness and creative classes, as well as a live podcast.
Over four days, the community will engage with practical strategies for overcoming depression.
Miss One Eighty will convey her insights through impactful artwork, fostering a deep
connection with attendees. Her exhibition blends introspection and self-empowerment,
emphasizing both self-reflection and self-encouragement.
The showcase will include curated calligraphy street art pieces that depict five key milestones in the journey to overcoming depression, each inspired by global psychological and healing practices.
The event will offer a range of activities, including meditation, breathwork, and functional health classes to support mental well-being. Participants can also explore creative workshops in oil painting, calligraphy, and illustration, encouraging artistic expression and personal growth.
A live podcast will feature a discussion with a registered mental health practitioner on effective methods for managing daily mental health challenges. The immersive experience will also include live music, visual projections, and collaborations with Australian artists.
Yarra City Council remains steadfast in its commitment to nurturing local talent and addressing the community’s mental health needs through this dynamic and multifaceted event. This initiative highlights the Council’s dedication to providing real-life tools and support for mental health awareness, offering hope and healing in a time of unprecedented mental health challenges.
“In the wake of the post-COVID mental health crisis, few events across Australia prioritise free creative and wellness programs. I am honored to contribute to reigniting the joy and vibrancy of Yarra City while providing the community with practical mental health tools.”
