XANI LIVE: COLLAB SERIES

I have some new music to release and it’s pretty spesh.

You know how I always improvise something from scratch at my Twoks and solo shows? Well I’ve decided to record these improvisations in lo-fi fashion on my Zoom recorder to release post-show so you can listen back to the magic we created together in a live music venue. Previously these improvisations would disappear forever, but now they will be captured and released out into the world.

The first one I’d like to share is from my recent solo show in Perth at The Ellington Jazz Club. I sent the improv to my talented little sister Meg Kolac who has illustrated the cover art which is also available to purchase as a digital print! Meg has drawn this illustration in lo-fi fashion on her ipad and it really is remarkable how technological advances have given us the freedom to just play!

Head over to my shop to get your copy of this live improvisation and a matching digital print to pop up on your study wall or wherever looks good to remind you how fun it is to just play around with ideas even when they’re not super polished. > shop now

UPCOMING TWOKS SHOWS

I know we’ve been quiet lately. That’s mainly because I have been in Perth for the past six weeks working on another show while Mark has been doing music/work stuff in Ieramugadu to Romania! But we will be back on stages very soon including heading off to play our very first Queenscliff Music Festival! Keep an eye on this page to find out when we’re playing.

As well as QMF, we are heading back to two of our favourite stomping grounds this month to play some headline shows. We will play three sets of tunes at The Rainbow Hotel on Saturday November 17th. This one is free entry folks, so bring everybody down. And then to top off the month we will be doing a very special show on Friday November 30th at our favourite venue Open Studio. It’s gonna be an epic Twoks month.

Oh and P.S: New Twoks tune coming very soon. In the meantime, check out the video below from our tour to Japan!

XENIDES – THE MUSICAL

So for the past six weeks I have been making a musical all about Wheel Of Fortune hostess, Adriana Xenides. This production has been created by my hero and director Clare Watson in collaboration with some extremely talented actors. The show opened last week here in Perth at the State Theatre and is showing until November 11th.

I have composed new songs for this production writing the melodies and lyrics as well as arranging them for a trio of instrumentalists. This has been my debut Musical Director experience in theatre and I’ve learned so much and had the best time of my life! Joining me on stage are Djuna Lee (bass) and Holly Norman (drums) and together we have created something dreamy and feminist and I couldn’t be prouder. The reviews have been golden and I am hoping like hell that we get to tour the show around Australia.

You can read up on my process of working and check out the program over here. And here’s a bloody ace review of the show.
