Warwick Capper, born in Melbourne in 1963, was once the most famous, most highly paid, and flamboyant footballers playing AFL.

In 1982 he played for Oakleigh Districts winning the comp’s Best & Fairest, and was then recruited by the Swans for 1983 – their second year in Sydney. He was a full forward with a spectacular mark. He was well known for his looks – long blond hair, tanned skin, tight shorts, and his flamboyant & extravagant image at the club alongside Geoffrey Edelsten.

In 1987 he kicked 103 goals for the Sydney Swans and won “Mark of the Year”. After 5 years at the Swans he moved to the Brisbane Lions becoming the League’s highest paid player. He was there for 3 years before returning to the Swans in 1991 for his last year at senior level. Although a great footballer, that was underrated and overshadowed by the antics and flamboyant behavior, which has continued to this day.

For almost 3 decades since he played, he has remained a massive character. Although now back in Melbourne he spent most of that time on the Gold Coast, the location suited to the walking publicity machine. When he appeared on “Open Mike” it was one of the highest rating episodes.

This will be a most entertaining lunch. 

He played 166 games between 2004 and 2017 in an injury plagued career. Sam worked for the club in their premiership winning year last year.
