An Exhibition by Emma De Clario

Join us for the Opening:
Saturday 30 April 4.30-6.30pm

Emma is a practicing Melbourne-based visual artist, whose practice explores the tenacious yet fragile human spirit.

De Clario has exhibited extensively in Australia, in various group shows, including solo shows at Francis Keevil Gallery, Damien Minton Gallery (NSW), The Woodbine Gallery (Vic), Anita Traverso Gallery and [MARS] Melbourne Art Rooms. In 2009 she was the winner of the Melbourne Art Fair Renault New Generation Artist of the Year Award, and was the recipient of the Linden Postcard Prize.

Her work focuses entirely on exposing the inexplicable, broken and yet shining tenacity of the human spirit.

“In this work, I am exploring the space between one home and another, and the movement within that space. In the last few years of my life I have moved quite a few times. I have been attempting to create, or re-create a’ home’ for myself and my children. In that process I have had to ask myself ‘what is the home I am searching for’?… Where is it, what does it look like, what does it feel like? This body of work symbolises my everlasting enquiry into what and where is ‘HOME’…

I ramble through my mind as I work; the paint, the brush, the stokes, the smudges translate to the viewer each moment past. Each moment I have been at my home. I have discovered that home is in my paintbrush, home is in these paintings.”
