JAZZ with RAY: JMQ Jazz Ensemble is delighted to invite versatile Afro-American singer, WYLIE J MILLER, from Ohio USA to feature with the JMQ next Thursday, FEB 24, 2022 at 7pm, UPSTAIRS at the welcoming Golden Gate Hotel, South Melbourne.
RAY CHARLES was a blind Jazz Musician, and early in his career he was ripped off and short-changed at jazz gigs, because he couldn't see what he was being paid. When Quincy Jones saw this, he took Charles under his wing and they often performed Jazz together, with Charles composing early jazz tunes, like One Mint Julep, and then more songs with jazz and blues foundations and a hint of gospel from his Georgia roots. By the late 1950s, there was a coming together of this jazz-blues-gospel art-form which was the genesis of Soul music. Jazz musicians were always employed to play soul in the early years and Ray Charles is credited with being the first. WYLIE J MILLER, an outstanding Jazz/Soul singer shall perform John's arrangements of the jazz hits of Ray Charles with some standards as well
