the saints: 'pig city live in brisbane 2007' vinyl release; the saints '73-'78 tour starts in less than two weeks!

With THE SAINTS ’73-’78 less than two weeks away, there’s some more big news coming out of Saintsville…

At last Pig City: Live in Brisbane 2007, the first show by the three original Saints – Ed Kuepper, Chris Bailey and Ivor Hay – in almost 30 years, is available again. This time with a different mix and released on vinyl in its entirety for the very first time.

In 2007 the original lineup of The Saints plus bassist Casper Wijnberg and accompanying brass section reformed for Brisbane Festival under the banner Pig City, referencing the book of the same name which celebrated Brisbane music from the time of The Saints and up to the nineties. It was an event that drew 6000 people under the Queensland University Big Top, and which also included Regurgitator, Riptides and Ups and Downs.

“Chris Bailey, Ed Kuepper and Ivor Hay walked on stage to thunderous applause and the band repaid the faithful with a set that nailed your head to the back wall. This was not a nostalgia show, this was a band playing at the peak of their powers and showing what made them so relevant and so inspiring to a world of bands from The Go-betweens, to The Birthday Party, to The Hives.” – Andrew Stafford

The double vinyl collection will be released in a limited edition including 100 orange vinyl, available exclusively from Artist First. Black vinyl will be available from the merch stand at The Saints ’73-’78 tour and via independent stores.

And for those that have been asking – YES, the (I’m) Stranded box set will also now be released on CD, and it will remain in its full 30cm sq format so all the booklet and associated artwork stays intact.

And YES, with initial quantities having all been allocated to pre-orders, we also have more (I’m) Stranded vinyl box sets set to arrive ahead of the November 15 release day…

The full vinyl and CD collection along with exclusive t-shirt designs is available here.

And don’t forget The Saints ’73-’78 featuring founding member Ed Kuepper and Ivor Hay alongside honorary Saints Mark Arm (vocals), Mick Harvey (guitar and keyboards) and Peter Oxley make their live debut this month playing material from the first three Saints albums only. Many shows are already sold out and more will follow. Remaining tickets here feelpresents.com

“The set is a dream run through the band’s early catalogue. Helped by a brass section that trots on and off the stage, the songs visit two camps. There are the big, driving ballads from Prehistoric Sounds: ‘Chameleon’, ‘The Prisoner’ and ‘All Times Through Paradise’. And there are the very best of the short, sharp tunes scattered across the first two albums: ‘(I’m) Stranded’, ‘No Time’, ‘Know Your Product’ and ‘This Perfect Day’.” – Robert Forster (Go-Betweens)

“It’s been an exhausting yet thrilling process being involved in the creation of this box set. It’s been 51 years in the making and has possibly turned out even better than I anticipated. It’s by far the most extensive appraisal of the band, both aurally and visually, that has ever been made available and hopefully reveals some things people may not have known about the band.” – Ed Kuepper
