The Maddocks Signal Their Arrival with Explosive New Track “Benny Says”

With their energetic blend of post-punk, psychedelia, and Northern grit, The Maddocks are primed to take the indie scene by storm. Following a string of sold-out headline shows and critical acclaim from tastemakers like Radio X’s John Kennedy and indie legend Tim Burgess, the band is ready to usher in a new era with the release of their electrifying new single, “Benny Says”.

Born and raised in Stockport, The Maddocks—comprised of George Edwards (vocals & lead guitar), Siobhán Lally (bass), Ed Gibbins (drums), and Alex Tollerfield (rhythm guitar)—have captivated audiences with their high-octane live performances and unique sound. Since their formation in early 2022, the band has already been making waves across the UK, with playlist placements on XS Manchester and Amazing Radio, as well as standout performances at Kendal Calling and Lakefest. Their upcoming release marks a pivotal point in their rapid ascent.

“Benny Says” is a raucous, psychedelic punk rock anthem that delves into the complex emotions of an unnamed protagonist, offering a raw and relatable exploration of self-understanding. The song channels a more overarching sound, with a pulsating rhythm section, swirling guitars, and a euphoric instrumental crescendo that has become a crowd favourite since its inclusion on the band’s live setlist in 2022.

‘Benny Says’ is one of our favourite songs that we’ve written so far, and definitely channels a slightly more peculiar sound than our debut EP. It’s been on our setlist ever since our first headline show back in 2022, so it’s already become a bit of a live favourite, and we can’t wait for more people to (hopefully!) love it as much as we do.”

This release comes ahead of The Maddocks’ biggest headline show yet at Manchester Academy 3 in March 2025, where they will be bringing their signature high-energy performance to one of the city’s most iconic venues. The upcoming single is just a taste of what’s to come, as the band gears up for the release of their forthcoming EP, The Mind Palace.

With influences spanning from Tame Impala to Fontaines D.C., The Strokes and beyond, The Maddocks’ expansive sonic palette continues to evolve, offering a fusion of indie rock, post-punk, and psychedelia that resonates with fans across genres.

Benny Says” is a statement from The Maddocks. They incorporate their quirky personality, creating a sound that’s raw, rebellious, and unapologetically their own. As they aim to take 2025 by storm, this new release only hints at their ambitious journey ahead.
