With the debut Australian tour and what is in fact the first ever international tour for US indie-super group The Hard Quartet just weeks away, singer, guitarist, bassist Emmett Kelly has selected some Australian faves to have join them including Rock Music Fan Club (R.M.F.C), Alien NosejobSmoked Salmon and Mess esque, with relative newcomers Michael BeachSolo Career and Twine rounding out the selection.

Emmett’s love for Australian music was compounded over previous visits here as a part of The Double (with Jim White) and as guitarist for Ty Segall. Performing under his own moniker The Cairo Gang in 2017 as support to the Scientists, Emmett even eventually found himself in the capacity of band agent booking and promoting the Scientists first ever tour of the USA in 2018.

For now though Emmett is but one part of The Hard Quartet alongside his Double(s) partner and Dirty Three drummer Jim White plus Pavement frontman Stephen Malkmus and journeyman Matt Sweeney (Chavez, Superwolf, Iggy Pop).

“The Hard Quartet often plays like a tribute to the deep bonds we form with music. The lyrics are filled with references to classic artists—from Motörhead to Blue Oyster Cult, Big Star to Sister Sledge—and the cozy sprawl of the record gives the sense of a party that none of the attendees want to leave.” – GQ

Meanwhile Osees frontman John Dwyer has stamped his authority all over their tour with the gnarliest bunch of supports he can find. A self-confessed “control-freak” Dwyer has dug deep to find who and what he wants to open his shows, reaching out personally to each and every one confirming their positions.

“The greatest live act in the world” (Marc Riley – BBC 6 / The Fall) return this February-March following a 2023 tour that literally blew the socks off everyone that attended. They will be doing much the same this time around.

“Tonight, we were served more than two hours of the most well-thought out and powerful and intense music that I had seen in 40 years of gig going.” – i94bar

“With no need to introduce the songs to their cult following, the band crash through 23 tracks with sweat flying off the cymbals with each synced crash. Claiming to be a ‘rip off’ of a multitude of bands, Dwyer’s humble nature doesn’t change the fact that Osees are easily one of the best live bands you could see in this day and age.” – The Clash

AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE, PRESENTED AS PART OF MARDI GRAS+

“You’re going to tell the police that the future king was frequenting a gay brothel? They’ll ruin you.”

London, 1889. Charlie Swinscow, a young post boy, gets busted with 14 shillings in his pocket.

But the twist? He didn’t steal it. That cash was payment for his body. Sold to a wealthy aristocrat at a secret gay brothel with ties to the Royal Family.

What starts as a petty arrest spirals into something much bigger. Charlie and his mother get caught in the middle of a national scandal that shakes the very foundations of the British Empire.

This is a wild, unfiltered, unpredictable trip through power, deception and disgrace. Raw, funny and sexy, in this true story about the notorious Cleveland Street Scandal, nothing is what it seems and everything feels like a fever dream.

This isn’t history; it’s a whole vibe. Get ready for the ride.
