The Sedergreen Brothers Sextet formed by Australian jazz icon Steve Sedergreen and his brother Mal Sedergreen are returning to Hawthorn Arts Centre on Friday 29 July. Audiences will be treated to a one-off performance celebrating the music of Stevie Wonder, featuring multi-award-winning guest vocalist, Nina Ferro.
The Sedergreen brothers joined forces as duo ‘Mistaken Identity’ in 1985 and later went on to produce unique arrangements of iconic Stevie Wonder songs for an album called Wondering.
Steve Sedergreen has been a household name in the scene for many years and has performed at the likes of the Melbourne International Jazz Festival and Sydney Festival. Steve has taught jazz for over 20 years, including mentoring members of Cat Empire, and directing and curating for Dizzy’s Jazz Club.
Performing in the Sedergreen Brothers Sextet alongside Steve and Mal are powerhouse artists: Felix Bloxsom on drums, Harry Morrison on bass, Dave Palmer on trombone and, multi-award winning guest vocalist, Nina Ferro.
Nina is considered to be one of the best vocalists around. Hailing from Melbourne and having spent the last 10 years based in London, Nina has built an international following of fans and fellow musicians. Having made appearances on award-winning albums, Nina has made guest appearances on ARIA award-winning albums and has performed alongside artists such as Hugh Jackman, Jessica Mauboy and John Farnham.
The Sedergreen Brothers have been awaiting their return to the historic Hawthorn Arts Centre after the pandemic and are bringing along some of Melbourne’s finest musicians.
Steve expressed: “It is a joy to be able to return to the Hawthorn Arts Centre after our shows got cancelled during the pandemic. We couldn’t be more excited to share music with our beloved audience.”
