DIESEL – SOLO BY REQUEST

russell morris joins the black sorrows, diesel and more @ yarraville liveFollowing the release of his ARIA #10 album SUNSET SUBURBIA and also a greatest hits package – 30: THE GREATEST HITS, Diesel is stripping back into solo mode and heading around the country to tour DIESEL – TAILORED SET – SOLO BY REQUEST.

A show where the audience plays the main part in forming the set list for the night – they make the song choices creating a TAILORED SET.  How it works…From a list of songs posted prior via Diesel’s website (www.dieselmusic.com.au), the audience make their song selections. The set list for the evening then gets formulated based on these choices.

Song choices posted will span from the first album ‘Johnny Diesel & The Injectors’ (1989) through to SUNSET SUBURBIA (2020), along with picks from some of Diesel’s favourite artists – Neil Young, Jimi Hendrix & Otis Redding and Muddy Waters to name just a few…The idea of letting the audience ‘hand pick’ the songs makes for a spontaneous night of select music.  With a career spanning over 3 decades, seventeen albums and a swag of ARIA awards, Diesel has the skills of a tailor to make a bespoke night.

FRIDAY 16 JULY – PLEASE NOTE NEW DATE

THE BLACK SORROWS

WITH SPECIAL GUEST MIKE ELRINGTON

russell morris joins the black sorrows, diesel and more @ yarraville liveAny examination of The Black Sorrows comes down to one person, Joe Camilleri frontman and the brains behind the band. Recently awarded “living legend” status by Rolling Stone, Joe’s career spans an astonishing 50+ years. As a singer, songwriter, saxophonist and producer Joe Camilleri is considered one of the most genuinely talented figures in Australian music still at the top of his game.

Songs such as So Young, Hit And Run, Shape I’m In, Hold On To Me, Harley and Rose, Chained To The Wheel, Never Let Me Go and The Chosen Ones have become radio staples. As leader of two of Australia’s most successful bands, Jo Jo Zep and The Falcons and The Black Sorrows, Joe’s music has become part of Australian music culture.  Joe was inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Hall of Fame in 2007. Over the years other greats have admired Camilleri’s songwriting. Elvis Costello and John Denver are just two who have recorded cover versions of Joe’s music.

Camilleri launched The Black Sorrows, a loose band of like-minded musicians, in 1984 following the demise of his seminal band Jo Jo Zep and The Falcons the year before. From humble beginnings playing inner-city cafes around Melbourne and selling albums from the boot of a car, Camilleri transformed The Black Sorrows into one of the most sophisticated ensembles in the country. The independently released album Dear Children, represented a turning point once CBS/Sony stepped in with a world-wide deal. When radio picked up the classic track, Mystified, The Black Sorrows really took flight releasing multi-platinum sellers Hold On To Me, Harley & Rose and The Chosen Ones. The Black Sorrows have won the ARIA for Best Band, played sell-out shows across Europe and sold more than two million albums worldwide.

The Black Sorrows still average 150 shows a year and since 2014 have included Europe on their touring schedule. In keeping with Joe’s penchant for continually moving forward, the newest version of The Black Sorrows is a formidable one – Claude Carranza (guitar/vocals), Mark Gray (bass/vocals), James Black (keyboards/vocals) and Tony Floyd (drums).

2 Course Dinner & Show $93.50 + bf, Reserved A Seating – Front $52 +bf, Reserved B Seating – Rear $44 + bf, General Admission $32+ bf, Door $35 (if available).

Doors:         6.45pm (Dinner & Show), 8pm (General Admission).

Showtime:  8.30pm (support), 9.30pm (The Black Sorrows).  TIX AVAILABLE HERE

SATURDAY 21 AUGUST – JUST ANNOUNCED

RUSSELL MORRIS

WITH SPECIAL GUEST JOE MATERA

russell morris joins the black sorrows, diesel and more @ yarraville liveIt all started of course over 50 years ago when Russell Morris became the first Australian artist to score consecutive number one singles with his first two releases – ‘The Real Thing’, which is one of the classic psychedelic singles of all time, and ‘Part Three Into Paper Walls’. Both reached #1 on the Australian chart, and what followed has become one of the most remarkable stories in contemporary Australian music.

Fast forward to 2012, when Russell began a trilogy of albums, each with a theme of Australian stories. The first, Sharkmouth, is a collection of tracks about the Australia of the 1920s + 30s. The album reached #6 on the ARIA Chart, and is certified platinum.  Then came Van Diemen’s Land in 2014 which focused on events rather than stories of individuals. From the prison ships that began Australia as a penal settlement, to the union strikes, the 1st and 2nd World Wars, Van Diemen’s Land covers a vast array of Australian history.

And in 2015 Russell released Red Dirt – Red Heart, with amazing musical stories with unique Australian themes which won the coveted Best Blues And Roots Album at the 2016 ARIA Awards.  And through it all, Russell remains one of the hardest working musicians in the country. For some Artists a new album can almost write itself after almost six decades on the road but it takes a rare combination of talent and circumstances to realise that vision as vividly and succinctly as Russell Morris does on his latest album Black And Blue Heart.
