Red Stitch Rejects “Culture of Bullying” Accusations

The Board, Ensemble and management of Red Stitch Actors’ Theatre reject claims that the
company condones or permits bullying.

We have taken very seriously, and thoroughly investigated, all complaints made against
members and employees of the company. We have encouraged independent mediation and
counselling, and have acted in accordance with complainants’ requests.

There is no evidence to suggest that the safety of any worker at the company has been
compromised.

No-one has been penalised by or dismissed from Red Stitch as a result of making
complaints.

The company’s Code of Conduct is adamant that bullying and harassment are unacceptable
and the Complaints Procedure provides a vehicle for any one who wishes to make a formal
complaint.

Despite modest financial rewards, several hundred individual actors, writers, directors,
designers and technical staff have worked at Red Stitch, many on multiple occasions. We
believe that this speaks to the inclusive and supportive nature of the company.

Red Stitch rejects unjustified efforts to damage its reputation as a professional work place
with high performance and ethical standards and principles on and off stage.
