Public Warning’s ‘Over/Under’ EP Is a Coming-of-Age Indie-Rock Triumph

Ashbourne-based indie-rockers Public Warning make a bold and confident entrance with their debut EP Over/Under — a punchy, melodic offering that bridges the gap between youthful uncertainty and the clarity of self-discovery. Produced by Keelan O’Reilly (Post-Party, Still Blue), the project captures the band’s signature blend of kinetic energy and emotional depth, firmly planting them among Ireland’s most exciting rising acts.

Built on a foundation of biting guitar tones, luscious synth layers, and tight, propulsive rhythms, Over/Under is as emotionally resonant as it is radio-ready. It pulses with that familiar coming-of-age tension — a feeling of standing in limbo, halfway between heartbreak and healing, between the person you were and the one you’re becoming.

Frontman Adam O’Dea reflects on that transitional space, saying:

“With Over/Under, we wanted to capture that in-between space—where you’re not who you were, but you’re not quite who you’re becoming yet. It’s about growing up, learning from mistakes, and figuring out what really matters in relationships and in life.”

And that sentiment bleeds into every track. There’s a melancholic bite to the melodies, balanced by anthemic choruses built to echo off venue walls. The production is crisp without feeling over-polished, allowing the band’s DIY ethos to shine through even as their sound becomes more expansive.

Formed in 2015, Public Warning’s roots go back to school talent shows and local gigs, but Over/Under proves just how far they’ve come. Now a tight four-piece made up of Adam O’Dea (vocals), JP Roche (guitar), Robbie Szpara (bass), and Mark Tuite (drums), the band channels the camaraderie of lifelong friendship into sharp, emotionally-charged songwriting.

Over/Under is a cohesive, cathartic debut that marries the melodic sensibilities of indie-pop with the raw punch of alt-rock. It’s relatable, rhythmic, and ready for bigger stages — a statement of intent from a band that’s more than ready to step out of the in-between and into the spotlight.
