Aligote is almost unheard of in Australia. As it is the poor cousin of the more prestigious Chardonnay grape.

Bourgogne Aligoté is the appellation within Burgundy for white wines made from the Aligoté grape variety, created in July 1937.

Not as expensive as Chablis, however there is a strong similarity to that of some more pricey Chablis I have tried in the past. I am drinking this wine at a just chilled temperature, everything is on show.

On the nose there is a floral hint of wild flowers, lemon and faint garden herbs. In the mouth it is dry, with lemon shining through hitting the mid palate with a thump as it slides down the sides of the cheeks and stays there. Much to my surprise I am really enjoying this wine, it has grown on me, sip after sip.

At first I thought the wine a little different, but not really what I was looking for. However after the wine has opened up a little and a glass or two later this wine has grown on me.

There is a pleasing understated lemon richness to this wine.

I was ready to scorn this wine and pass it off as just a drink. However as I drank more and more the saline, mineral Character shone through on the long finish. It is a delicious and vibrant wine with clean acid on the finish that is hanging on and on giving this wine exceptional length.

At $63.00 this wine is a good substitute for a Chablis, if you don’t want to spend $100.00 + on a wine that may offer little more enjoyment.

This was a very interesting wine. I Loved it!

I have no trouble recommending it to an experienced wine drinker. Looking for something that will provoke their thoughts about Aligote and their taste buds.

Food – oysters with fine diced Spanish onions and crisp thin pan fried prosciutto. Topped with a pin prick squirt of Japanese mayo.

Yes I made this, left overs from the weekend.

I would like to point out the cork never went back in. I was going to share this with a friend. Unfortunately Theo will just have to read about it.

The problem is I could have stopped drinking at any time but chose not too. I was really enjoying this wine so dam much!!!
