Can’t find a wedding dress that suits you?

You’ve scrolled through Instagram or Pinterest, asked around for advice, and even tried on a few wedding dresses — but none of them look right.

Going The Sposa Group route might be your best bet.

You’ll be able to decide on the colour, design, material, and every little detail. Best of all, it’ll be a completely unique dress. One of a kind, made just for you.

But how do you even get one made? What about the design? Well, let’s go through this step by step, starting with…

Finding inspiration and collecting ideas

This is one of the most important steps. By finding out exactly what you like, it’ll speed up the entire process and help you make decisions.

Flip through some magazines, scroll through some Instagram feeds, and check out some Pinterest boards. When you find a dress that you like, save it and add a note describing what you like about it. Try to be as detailed as possible.

According to wedding celebrant Jay Flood, inspiration doesn’t have to come from magazines and the internet alone, check in with your friends and family who know you best, as he explains “keeping an open mind can lead to the wedding dress you never knew you always wanted. Try asking your friends and family for any ideas they have, or what they think would suit you. You never know how the people that know you best, can help you get dressed.”

Pruning your collection

You just went on a collecting spree and saved hundreds of photos. But you can’t possibly bring all of these together to make a design.

It’s time to add a touch of reality to your inspiration and discard a chunk of your saved inspirations. Note: It’s a good idea to save them somewhere just in case you change your mind.

Write down some criteria you have for your dress, here are some examples:

  • Consider the parts of your body you want to highlight and parts you want to minimise
  • Take into consideration how much mobility you’ll need on the day of your wedding (what’s the plan for the day?)
  • Look inside your own wardrobe. What colours or materials do you avoid because you know they aren’t flattering?

Now seperate all your saved inspirations into two categories. One that’s practical and one that’s not. Keeping the ones which have been pruned might come in handy during the next step…

Get in touch with your wedding dress designer

You have a few ideas and a clearer picture in your mind, now it’s time to contact a wedding dress designer.

This is when things start to come together. Your designer will create sketches and mock-ups so your inspirations and ideas blend to form a unique dress. Remember to tell your designer your budget, so they can create a design that will match it.

Once you’re okay with the mock-up, it’s time to move on to the details.

Wedding dress designer Naomi Peris say’s, “mock-ups are works in progress. The final wedding dress design may be different and it’s important to communicate with each other as new ideas arise and if any plans change.

Choosing your material and getting your measurements

Look and touch some fabric samples and find one that you like. Keep in mind the texture, how it feels on your skin, and how it looks on you.

Then, get your measurements done by your designer. It’s important that a professional is the one who does the measuring as this is vital to having a dress that fits comfortably.

Next up is….

Trying it on

This is where you get your dress back to try on. You’ll do this with your designer. Your designer will suggest any alterations that they recommend and you are encouraged to share your opinions.

According to the  wedding car hire experts at Red Chevy Hire, keepin mind what you’ll need to do while wearing your dress, saying “a dream dress can feel magical in the fitting. But remember you might have to ride with it in transport, dance in it, and sit in it all night, so balance comfort with style to make sure your day is unforgettable for all the right reasons.”

After this is all sorted, your dress will go back to your designer to have the alterations complete.

And that’s it!

You’ll get your dress back looking absolutely perfect. It’ll have the exact materials you want, the exact colour and design, and fit you just the way you like it.
