Hi beauty,
I hope you’ve had a lovely week and if you’re in Australia, hope you’ve enjoyed the double long weekend!
My new album came out last week and I’ve got to say that I am blown away by all the messages of love and support. Thank you for giving it your time and having a listen. I hope there’s something in this new music just for you. I’m also excited to share that it made the 100% Independent Aus Indies Charts debuting at No. 7! That’s a little win.
I’m about to start a little track by track over on my Instagram page, so come on over if you’d like to learn a bit more about the meaning and making of these songs.
The idea for the album all began with a series of tough times. I wondered how I was ever going to get through all life’s serious curveballs. Wouldn’t it be good to have a guidebook? So I decided to write my own little guides. I’d turn up on zoom for songwriting sessions with Clare Reynolds who lives in Nashville. Clare would listen to my stories, I’d cry, we’d cry, we’d laugh and then try to get to the very root of my deepest, most honest feelings. Then Clare would guide me to shape these feelings into my lyrics. I love this collaboration and have been working with Clare for many years now.
The songs turned out to have more questions than answers, more reflection and observation than solutions, but I’m so grateful for these memories – subtle echoes of resilience and hope.
I’ll be doing an interview on my beloved RRR radio with Amy from Uncommon Sense to chat and play a song live next Tuesday if you’d like to tune in. Then next weekend we kick off the album launch tour up the East Coast. Each show will be a bit different – there’s a house concert in Nunderi (email me for an invite), solo shows in regional Victoria, and double bill full band shows sharing the stage with Elana Stone. I hope there’s something there for you, and near you.
I will be doing a very special epic home ground launch show on May 16 at Northcote Social Club featuring an opening set by First Nations artist Jess Hitchcock, a charismatic set from Elana Stone and her band, and then a trio set from me! I’ll be playing with Justin Olsson (drums) and my little sister Meg Kolac (bass), plus special guests. You can grab tickets here and help me pack this one out.
In the meantime, you can pre order a copy of the album on vinyl (due to arrive in May), or buy the digital/CD version on Bandcamp. Every purchase goes into helping me keep on keeping on.
And finally, I’M PLAYING MY FIRST SHOW EVER IN LONDON! Can’t wait for that one on June 2nd at SXSW London at the Shoreditch Town Hall. It really is shaping up to be a very exciting 2025.
Hope to catch you at one of the shows. And as always, I love to hear from you! Let me know if you’ve listened to the album and what you reckon?
Love Xani
xx
