MINISTRE IMPÉRIAL – JEAN CHARLES ABBATUCCI 2022 – Taravo valley – Corsica – $247.00

Must Read

This wine is a blend of 8 grape varieties from 60 year-old vines, most of which I haven’t come across before: Morescola, Morescono, Aleatico, Carcajolo Nera, Montanaccia, Sciacarello and Nielluccio.
Biodynamically farmed, Hand harvested, low yields, use of horse-drawn ploughs, sheep walking around the vines over winter,  low use of sulphur.   Winemakers making wine in a manner the big corporations the world over could not afford to even consider as it would be labour-intensive, and not at all feasible to do on a large scale!
A wine for Fine Wine collectors, only 83 – 6pks  produced. This is a wine to lay down and age for a number of years and when the time is right.
Enjoy with a roast leg of aged beef with Scalloped Potatoes and roasted beets layered with crumbled soft goat cheese tossed with walnuts.
The earthiness of the beets and walnuts blend with the smokey dark fruit elements of the wine, as the Scalloped Potatoes and goat cheese harmonise with the tannins.
On the Nose: Wood aromas come after powerful notes of dark currants and a mix of old-world red fruits that waft up from the glass filling the nostrils with the anticipation of coming flavours.
In the mouth:  Smokey dark fruit and soil swirl through the rich dry flavours that fill the mouth as elegant tannins wash over the palate and lead the way to a long complex,  mouthwatering finish!
It’s not a cheap wine however the quality is there in spades. At what I believe to be a justifiable price compared to many on the market!
This is a wine for those of us who enjoy Bordeaux-style flavours without the high-end Bordeaux price tag.
Remember the beauty of any wine, is always in the eye of the beholder.  All I can do is give you my account of the wines I have enjoyed drinking. I found this wine to be most enjoyable and most importantly, it offered quality and stood out from other wines in the lineup.
