Mind Medicine Australia 3rd Birthday

Three years ago we started Mind Medicine Australia for a simple reason.

To advocate for your human right to access the highest standard of medicines, health and wellbeing availableOur mission is to expand the treatment options available to doctors and their patients by making psychedelic-assisted therapies accessible for all Australians.

It has been an incredibly challenging journey so far. Nevertheless, this has been the most rewarding and impactful work we’ve ever done, and we couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve achieved over the past 12 months despite the challenges of the pandemic.

  • We helped secure $15 million in Federal funding towards novel clinical trials.
  • We announced that MMA is part-funding Australia’s largest clinical trial (200 participants) designed to study the brain activity of doctors and therapists after taking psychedelic medicines.
  • We collaborated and advocated for the development and launch of the Neuromedicines Discovery Centre at Monash University.
  • We’ve partnered with two of Australia’s most respected authorities in altered-state work, Nigel Denning and Dr. Tra-ill Dowie to form the Mind Medicine Institute to train the next generation of integrative therapists.
  • We trained nearly 100 therapists through our Certificate in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies (CPAT) last year and will train at least 200 in 2022.
  • Prof. David Nutt described CPAT, on ABC Radio, as “the best course in the world for educating people about how to use psychedelics.”
  • We held the biggest International Summit on Psychedelic Therapies for Mental Illness in the Southern Hemisphere, featuring inspirational sessions with Dr Gabor Maté (USA), Dr Ben Sessa (UK), Prof. Roland Griffiths (USA), Prof. Robin Carhart-Harris (UK), Dr Rick Doblin (USA), Dr Lynn Marie Morski (USA) and dozens of other leaders in the field for over 1000 registrants.
  • We held over 80 events with over 15,000 attendees.
  • We appeared in over 85 media pieces nationally and internationally.
  • We conducted the first ever national Essential Research poll into attitudes towards psychedelic-therapies in Australia, and found out that over 60% of Australians support increased access and utilisation of these medicines in clinical settings.
  • Mind Medicine Australia joined in the launch of the International Therapeutic Psilocybin Rescheduling Initiative (ITPRI), a global coalition working to promote and secure a rescheduling of psilocybin under the 1971 Convention on Psychotropic Substances.
  • We launched a world class global webinar series and podcast.
  • We launched Australia’s first book of Psychedelic Healing Stories.
  • We launched an online shop with unique MMA products.
  • We are partnering with leading educational institutes including Monash University, Melbourne University and Swinburne University to advance research and integration of our work into their student base at the post-graduate level.
  • Our network has grown to over 35 chapters and 1500 members around the country.
  • We have built a core team of incredibly highly skilled and wonderful human beings to help MMA hit all our goals with a positive attitude and a lot of fun along the way… 🙂

Whilst we were never going to please everyone, we have rallied an incredible group of supporters that now number over 35,000 receiving this email.

To all of you, we say THANK YOU. Your support means so much to all of us and especially to all those suffering.

We’re just getting started and we can’t wait to live in a country where everyone has fair access to these incredible treatments.

Warmly,
Tania de Jong AM, Peter Hunt AM and the MMA Team
