Fresh from supporting Ron Sexsmith and a US solo tour, this new work is inspired by Lang’s deep love and fear of the ocean. From the small Victorian coastal village he now calls home, to childhood summers perched above the St Kilda Esplanade visiting his Grandparents’ ’80s high-rise apartment.

Lang recalls “The apartment door would swing open exposing sweeping views of the St Kilda beach igniting day dreams of a life out at sea. It was here that I first began writing songs with my Grandmother and understanding a love of the ocean through my Grandfather’s eyes. I am thrilled to be returning home to record and premier this new work at The National Theatre on Carlisle Street in St Kilda.”

The performance features collaborations with acclaimed Melbourne visual artist Graeme Altmann and animation by Leigh Ryan. The iconic theatre will be transformed into an immersive experience featuring new and loved songs reimagined from Lang’s extensive catalogue.

A renowned lyricist and storyteller, Lang has released three critically acclaimed albums that have made many album of the year lists as part of beloved Australian indie band Skipping Girl Vinegar.
