This is the 3rd and final program that tells the story of Olive Nicholls. We begin to understand how those born during the Great depression of the 1920’s and then went onto serve in WWII, not only created the foundations for as modern Australia, but did it through a lot of self-sacrifice and hard work.
When interviewed in 2009, Olive was in the twilight of her years. Her husband Keith, who she met during her time in the navy, had passed on leaving Olive with many wonderful memories.
Like many in her generation, while she suffered much and struggled during some very difficult times yet, she came through with a wonderful view on life. She looks back on the times with her family and the many events that remain indelibly printed in her mind.
Olive also, during this last part of her story, briefly returns to her early years and in doing so, completes her story, for us and for herself.
Olive passed away in February 2012.
