Welcome to Listen To Older Voices, a program produced
by Rob Greaves for Uniting Melba and podcast through
the Toorak Times and Tagg.
Listen To Older Voices presents the stories, views and opinions of our older citizens. It is predominantly in a life & times format, with interviewees reflecting upon their lives from earliest memories. An underlying principle of the program is to promote the concept of positive ageing, reinforcing the principle that older people have & continue to make a valuable contribution to both their local & wider community.
In part 1 of the Life and Times of Margaret Healy, we learn that she was the daughter of a timber worker and how over the three programs, timber and that industry, would play a significant part of her life. She lost her mother early in her life and her brother Bill became in her eyes, her primary carer and that explains why she developed such a strong bond with him.
We really learn about what makes Margaret tick, her sense of family, her determination to always turn a negative into a positive, her undying love for her now deceased husband Mick and her sense of community connectivity have all been formed.
There are no airs and graces about Margaret, what you hear is what you get and, honesty and an upfront attitude to life are all hallmarks of a woman with her feet firmly planted into the ground.
