The Frees’ (John and Meaghan Free, ex-Penthouse, Gin Palace) ‘nasty woman’ vocals shine a fearsome spotlight on grim realities, while electric guitar chills to the bone as this intense performance duo provides a harrowing mid-apocalypse soundtrack to late-stage capitalism’s self-wrought societal and ecological collapse, pouring their grief and rage into work described as “outstandingly bleak but hauntingly beautiful”.
John Free was also at various times a member of the bands Country Teasers (Crypt/In The Red), Quickspace (Domino/Matador), and The Cesarians, made guitars for and recorded with Jon Spencer and Matt Verta-Ray at NY Hed studio, and gave several collaborative performances with Lydia Lunch and supported bands such as The Fall, Dirty Three, Rev.
