Latest eNews: HIR kicks off Season 2018, and introducing Pre-Show Parlour…

Must Read

Welcome to our Season 2018!

We are thrilled to be kicking off the year with the extraordinary play, HIR by Taylor Mac.

New York playwright and performance artist Taylor Mac, captivated audiences last year with A 24-Decade History of Popular Music at the Melbourne Festival. And now everyone is talking about HIR (Hir, pronounced ‘here’, a gender-neutral pronoun).

This highly anticipated tragi-comedy, already ranked the number one show to see this Midsumma Festival, features 2018 graduate ensemble actor Harvey Zielinski. We are over the moon to welcome Harvey to this special production and also to our Ensemble. Our brilliant cast and creative team is lead by director Daniel Clarke. Daniel and Harvey recently chatted to The Age about HIR, read it here

Featuring Belinda McClory (Splendour) as Paige, with Ben Grant making his Red Stitch debut as Arnold, and welcoming back Jordan Fraser-Trumble (You Got Older, Jurassica, 2015 Graduate actor) as Isaac, HIR is an extraordinary work by one of the most groundbreaking artists of our time. It’s booking out fast, so secure your seats and get ahead for the year by purchasing a 2018 Red Stitch subscription.

If you missed Taylor Mac last time, you’re not going to want to miss judy’s work again (judy being Taylor’s preferred gender-neutral pronoun)… and scroll down for details on how to catch special guest Mama Alto, who also performed with Taylor in Melbourne recently, at our new Pre-show Parlour.

Love,

The Red Stitch Ensemble

For four nights only you can catch Mama Alto play an intimate set before the Victorian premiere of HIR by Taylor Mac, directed by Daniel Clarke.

Join us for drinks in the summer air, and enjoy the “breathtaking” (Arts Hub) experience of Mama Alto’s storytelling.

“A knockout.” (The Herald Sun)

“Mama Alto is an exceptionally talented singer, who makes the question as to whether it is a woman or a man singing obsolete. It is clearly an angel.” (The Conversation).

“…near flawless.” (The Age)
