One of the delights of my job is witnessing great artists practice what they do best. Which means rising to new heights and challenges in their work.
American Song is one of those opportunities. An exquisite, finely wrought script by one of Australia’s most accomplished playwrights, Joanna Murray-Smith, American Song is an astonishing play. Tom Healey is directing our Australian Premiere production. Tom is much loved by our ensemble for his rigour, finesse, and impeccable exacting standards. Watching him collaborate with ensemble member Joe Petruzzi through this immense piece is inspiring. Together, they have constructed the world of this play with great precision; whilst appearing effortless. Supported by the brilliant designers Bronwyn Pringle, Daryl Cordell and Patrick Cronin, they’re all making theatre magic.
