Pulsating beats, late-night confessionals, and unapologetic introspection – that’s what sums up Lahde’s latest project, Sunshine. The 5-track EP is only the first part of a double-sided project, with the next to drop later in the year.
Embracing transition and stepping fully into herself, Sunshine is an especially meaningful project for Lahde. She shares, “Sunshine is about embracing all the sides of myself — the bold, the soft, the strong, the sensual. It’s a celebration of being multidimensional and unapologetic, and it represents the light I want to share with the world.
Lahde, or Oluwafunmilade Ayomide Oyapero, is a Nigerian-born, Toronto based singer. With every new wave to come, Lahde has stepped further into the light of embracing her identity, culture and womanhood. This dual heritage breathes through her music, as she interpolates between Afrobeats, R&B, soul and poignant lyricism.
Blending her global influences, she began singing at just four years old, before the stage had ever found her. By twelve, she was training professionally at the Ontario Conservatory of Music. This culminated in her debut EP RedEye, which dropped only last year.
With a surety typically found in an artist of decades, Lahde shines in her self-assured lyricism and bold sound – and what better way than to do it while celebrating her heritage and her identity.
