In the glass: Deep dark ruby red – very inviting.
On the nose: Aromas of white strawberry flowers, I found a little barnyard and liquorice building as the wine opened.
In the mouth: Clean fruit, good acid, dark red fruits mingled with herbs, medium-bodied with long strawberry tannins finishing light on the back palate, offering a little complexity as the wine continued to open.
The upside to tasting 30+ Cabernet Franc in one sitting is the chance to see how each vineyard or winemaker can produce a different interpretation from the same grape from an adjacent vineyard separated only by a fence. However, this also has a lot to do with Terroir. A French term used to describe the unique aspects of an area that influence and shape the wine made from it.
This, however, was my pick for the day. The wine offered balanced fruit and acid in a lighter yet earthy style. I have become more aware of a barnyard and liquorice character in a lot of Cabernet Franc that I am starting to enjoy at the moment.
My choice of food was simple, took less than 30 min.
Pasta in a Black Truffle Cream Sauce!
Yes; You may have to plan the meal. I had a small jar of Black Truffles in the fridge. I work in a high-end deli, and I’m a chef and work with fantastic booze. So guess what I eat and drink well, yes I’m also getting old and round!!!
