Ivofonic: Pushing the Boundaries of Electronic Music with Emotion and Storytelling

Ivano Abram is the creative mind behind Ivofonic, an independent musician and producer based in Naarm (Melbourne, Australia). Originally from Italy, Abram began his musical journey at the age of 12 with the guitar before developing a deep passion for electronic music and sound design. Drawing inspiration from influential artists such as The Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy, Massive Attack, LCD Soundsystem, Jamie xx, and Nicolas Jaar, he has crafted a distinct sound that blends electronica, synth-pop, and electro-house, enriched by live elements that push the boundaries of modern electronic music. Storytelling through both sound and visuals is central to his work. Abram aims to connect with audiences on an emotional and immersive level, offering not just music but a complete narrative experience that invites listeners into a new dimension of sound and expression.
Ahead of his next release, jump straight into this interview to learn more about Ivofonic.

Can you tell us the story of how you first fell in love with making music?

I think my love for making music started when I was around 7 or 8 years old. My dad had a double cassette recorder, and I used to spend hours experimenting by recording noises, random sounds, and even my own voice. I still remember the excitement of listening back to those recordings; it felt like a kind of magic.
Then, when I was about thirteen, I came across the song “Cherub Rock” by The Smashing Pumpkins on a mixtape my sister had. That song completely clicked something inside me: the sound of that heavy, distorted yet melodic guitar riff hit me deeply. I fell in love with it so much that I wanted to learn guitar just so I could play that song and eventually make my own music inspired by it. I told my dad I wanted to take lessons, and he supported me, something I’ll always be grateful for. And that’s where my musical journey began.

How do you like to paint a picture of your music for people who haven’t heard it yet?

It’s like walking through a dream of light, distortion, and emotion, a space where the human and the machine collide to create something raw, and real, shaped by love and authenticity. It’s electronic music that aims not just to make you move, but to make you feel.

What’s your favourite part of making music, from that first idea to the finished track?

I honestly love the entire process, from the first concept to the moment a track is finished. Each song has its own story and evolves in its own way, and I find that journey fascinating.
I’ve always believed that today’s music industry, with its focus on quantity over quality and the pressure for artists to constantly release something new (ideally every month!), is killing the true artistic expression of music. A song needs time to grow and mature inside the artist before it can fully express its essence. It has to form a bond with you. It’s a bit like growing a flower: you plant the seed, nurture it, and wait. When the first green sprout appears, you protect and care for it until it finally blooms.

Outside of music, what inspires your creativity?

People, society, and, above all, the mind-blowing beauty and mystery of the universe.

What’s the latest chapter in your music story? What are you working on right now?

I’ve just released a new single titled ‘Fractures’, a synth-pop track with dark-wave tones that explores the fractured nature of our hyperconnected world. On a personal level, this song closes a sort of chapter (that began with the album ‘Glimpses’) of the long journey I started with the Ivofonic’s project. I’ve spent most of 2025 working on my next album, set for release in February 2026, which will the beginning of the new chapter, the next step of my sound’s evolution.

If we spoke again in two years, where would you hope to be in your career?

Music is the greatest passion of my life, it fulfils me completely and gives me a space where I can be truly free. It’s like a form of therapy for me, and honestly, I don’t know how I’d cope without it. So if in two years I’m still healthy and able to write, produce, and share my music with the world, that alone would be already a big achievement.
But there’s also something even bigger than Ivofonic itself. I hope that by then, music as an art form will have started to reclaim its true essence, where artists are once again valued and recognised for the emotions they bring into people’s lives. If I can contribute, even in a small way, to that shift, to a better, more authentic future for music that would be also an incredible achievement.

What’s one thing about you, as a person or artist, that your listeners might be surprised to learn?

Beyond Ivofonic, I’m also committed in the not-for-profit sector, working for a community organisation where I manage and supervise a team of nearly 100 volunteers who support the most vulnerable members of our community. They’re an incredible group of amazing people who inspire me every single day.
