How long can a knocked-out tooth be saved?

Popular in Magazine

Without undue exaggeration, knocking out a tooth could be a medical emergency. Do not try to replace an adult tooth that has been knocked out. Instead, take your child to the dentist right away rather than attempting to re-insert a baby’s tooth.

You should schedule a dental appointment with dentist Arana hills if the tooth is only slightly damaged or completely knocked out so the dentist can fill it or sort it out.

How long do you have?

After being knocked out for five minutes, the tooth will likely survive if it is quickly put back into the socket says Dental Ballwin. As long as the tooth has been correctly preserved, there is a high survival rate between five and sixty minutes. However, the likelihood of the tooth surviving dramatically diminishes if it is removed from the mouth for longer than 60 minutes.

What to do when a tooth is knocked out

If your tooth is knocked out, you should:

  • Take hold of the crown (the white bit that sticks out of the gum)
  • If the tooth is filthy, lick it clean or give it a water rinse.
  • Place it back in its proper place (adult teeth only); never attempt to reposition a baby tooth
  • bite down on a napkin to retain the tooth
  • visit a dentist right away.

If you are unable to replace the tooth, place it in milk and schedule an appointment with a dentist. A knocked-out tooth is more likely to regrow into the gum if it is replaced as soon as possible. However, you shouldn’t attempt to replace a baby tooth because you risk damaging the adult tooth that erupts underneath.

The dentist arana hills will examine your tooth and take an X-ray to ensure it is in the right place. Then, they will splint it to the teeth on either side to secure it for two weeks.  Before splinting it to the teeth on either side for two weeks, they will take an X-ray to ensure it is in the proper position. The dentist will numb the area and realign the tooth if you immediately go to the dentist after putting your tooth in.

An injured or broken tooth

If you have a fractured tooth, look for the shattered piece, place it in milk, and then schedule an appointment with a dentist as soon as possible during business hours. The dentist might be able to reattach the piece to the tooth. If you cannot locate the fragment, don’t worry; your dentist can rebuild your tooth using a material that matches your teeth.

Conclusion

Your smile will be more aesthetically pleasing, and your confidence will return thanks to a denture, bridge, or implant. Some people don’t mind having gaps in their teeth; therefore, not everyone needs to have missing teeth replaced. Discuss your options with your dentist to help you determine what you want.
