Dutch alternative-electronic artist Heijmat embarks on an expansive sonic journey with his latest single, “Horizon”, the first offering from his forthcoming EP, Echoes of Solace. Known for blurring the lines between ambient, techno, and downtempo, Heijmat takes a more cinematic and emotive approach with “Horizon”, delivering an immersive listening experience that feels both introspective and transcendent.
Collaborating with LudoWic, an artist renowned for his mastery of the Trautonium (one of the earliest synthesizers), Heijmat constructs a mesmerizing composition that balances delicate piano work, lush analogue synths, and elegant arpeggiators. The track opens with a haunting, melancholic melody that gradually builds into layered, Nils Frahm-inspired textures, before transitioning into a euphoric crescendo of swelling synths and cinematic grandeur.
As “Horizon” reaches its peak, the track strips back to a minimalist finale—a single synth, piano, and the Trautonium—leaving listeners in quiet reflection, mirroring the experience of finding clarity after chaos.
Beyond the music, “Horizon” carries an intimate, personal touch in its artwork, designed by Heijmat’s wife. The cover features a Polaroid photograph taken by their eldest daughter alongside a painting by Heijmat’s father-in-law, creating a tangible and organic aesthetic that mirrors the track’s warmth and emotional depth.
