I personally love Cabernet Franc, in particular French-Cabernet Franc. I find it a little softer and more approachable than a lot of Australian Cabernet Franc.
Saumur Champigny Cabernet Franc offers great depth of flavour. Offering some complexity to this easy drinking wine with its cherry-like flavours and herb highlights.
In the Glass: This is a classic style Cabernet Franc with all the usual suspects, tobacco, black tea, herbs, sage and white pepper.
In the Mouth: The wine is relatively soft and smooth with hints of violets on the front palate washed over with bright red fruits and light herbaceous notes on the finish.
A soft and refreshing red with some chewy tannins. During the warmer weather, I put the wine in the fridge for 15 minutes, no longer just to take the edge off the wine.
The Food: I enjoyed this wine with a Slow Roasted Shoulder of Lamb with Fennel with a squirt of lemon; Don’t overdo the lemon.
