Thursday Jazz w./ Mel Searle + Hector Harley with JMQ Jazz Ensemble

JMQ Jazz Ensemble is delighted to feature outstanding Jazz Songstress MEL SEARLE with stellar guest saxophonist, HECTOR HARLEY on Thursday, JULY 3, 2025, at the welcoming Golden Gate, South Melbourne at 7pm. They shall appear with Tony Floyd, Barney Loveland, Michael Harding + John Montesante.
MEL is a vibrant and exciting artist on the Melbourne jazz and vocal scene. With a voice which has been described as liquid honey, Mel’s vocals are understated yet utterly captivating due to her impeccable control and luminous tone. With an innate talent for vocal improvisation and unerring phrasing and intonation, Mel Searle performs with a sophistication and vitality which is joyfully reminiscent of some of the greats of yesteryear.
HECTOR is a Melbourne-based saxophonist and composer who has studied with the likes of Andrea Keller and Barney McAll, as well as receiving tutelage from American saxophonists Joel Frahm and Walter Smith. Hector received the Marion Thomas Award for Excellence in 2018 whilst studying his Bachelor of Jazz and Improvisation at the VCA, as well as being a nominee for the Athenaeum Club Young Artist Trust Jazz Award in 2022 during his honours year. He is in demand in the jazz scene.

Mick created TAGG - The Alternative Gig Guide in 1979 with Helmut Katterl, the world's first real Street Magazine. He had been involved with his fathers publishing business, Toorak Times and associated publications since 1972.  Mick was also involved in Melbourne's music scene for a number of years opening venues, discovering and managing bands and providing information and support for the industry. Mick has also created a number of local festivals and is involved in not for profit and supporting local charities.
