April 9 @ 9:30 am - 2:30 pm
Melbourne City Nature Walk – History, Sport and Religion
Our meeting location: The Fearless Girl sculpture in the centre of Federation Square
Our finishing location: Victoria Park Station (bring your myki for a 12 minute train ride back to Flinders St Station).
This walk honors the important place that the AFL and sports have in Melbourne and its a great time to do it at the end of the women’s season and the beginning of the 2021 men’s season. Sport connects people together, sometimes with rivalry. As we walk through some beautiful spaces in Melbourne we take in the stories and the sculptures in the Avenue of Legends at the MCG, as well as indigenous history, women in sport, and the historic home grounds of the Richmond and Collingwood Football Clubs. You’ll also find out about the little-known 1963 historic clash between VFL Allstars and the Melbourne Slavia Soccer club. Some say that Melbourne is the AFL, so join us on this walk to learn more about Melbourne and share your own footy experiences.
