Doors at 7.30pm for an 8pm start.
From the Adelaide avant-blues band Precious Memories to his current band The Trip, Henry has been spreading his cosmic blues far and wide for over 40 years.
He has been described in the pages of The Age as “Australian jazz’s most unique vocalist bar none”. Henry has shared stages with Wendy Saddington, Margret RoadKnight, Joe Camilleri, The Twoks, Harry James Angus, and Steve Sedergreen. The Trip features the pianistic fireworks of musical director Adam Rudegeair (Lake Minnetonka, The Bowie Project) and regular appearances from Clare Moore (Dave Graney).
Henry’s debut album Shiver included Australian jazz/blues legends Bob Sedergreen and Geoff Kluke, and was released in 2001.
The 2004 follow-up, Bijou Box, introduced Henry’s backing band The Trip, and was launched at the original Dizzy’s in Melbourne, followed by shows in Adelaide and Sydney. The third and final release to date, Sexjazz, was described in Australian Stage as ‘a melismatic concoction of deep jazz thought, spatial blues and in-the-pocket soulfire.’
Henry has opened for Renee Geyer, shared stages with Ruth Rodgers-Wright, and performed shows focusing on some of his biggest influences, including Etta James and Sun Ra. In December 2012, Henry and Adam had the honour of working with the legendary Wendy Saddington in her last major concert in Melbourne. Henry also performed as a special guest with Margret RoadKnight at her 75th jubilee at the Jazzlab in 2018.
Henry is a frequent guest in the Melbourne funk band Lake Minnetonka, and the co-writer of their songs ‘Miracle Kind’ and ‘Why Don’t We Just…”
