His Worship the Mayor, Cr Alex del Porto and Councillors of Bayside City Council invite you to the opening of the Ellen José Art Award for young women.
Join us to celebrate the inaugural Ellen José Art Award for young women, a $15,000 non-acquisitive triennial award designed to support young female artists in the early stages of their career.
The award is held in honour of Ellen José, a pioneering indigenous artist, radical activist and social justice campaigner who lived in the Bayside suburb
of Black Rock for over 25 years.

Ellen José Art Award for young women: Artist Panel
Don’t miss this fascinating artist panel featuring finalists Annika Romeyn, Hannah Gartside and Nadia Hernández from the Ellen José Art Award for young women.
In its first year, this triennial prize features six young female artists from across Australia working in various mediums.
This is an opportunity to hear direct from some of Australia’s most up and coming young talent.

NAIDOC Week 2022: In conversation with artist Moorina Bonini
You’re invited to join Bayside Gallery for an online conversation with Indigenous artist and finalist in the Ellen José Art Award for young women, Moorina Bonini.
Bonini is a proud Yorta Yorta and Woiwurrung woman. She is descended from the the Dhulunyagen family clan of Ulupna people (Yorta Yorta) and the Wurundjeri Briggs/McCrae family. Her practice is informed by her identity as an Aboriginal and Italian woman, and the lived experiences that have influenced the construction of her cultural identity.
Moorina will discuss her practice and its interrogation of western approaches to Indigenous knowledge and material culture with Bayside Gallery Curator, Joanna Bosse.

Yarnbombing School Holiday Workshop
Come along and meet some of the GLAD rappers, learn about yarn bombing and maybe make some pieces and get involved in yarnbombing. This session is available to youth aged 12 – 17 who live, go to school, work or study in Bayside.
