Restore the National

The National Theatre Melbourne is an architecturally significant, heritage-listed building with a proud history of achievement through our performing arts schools, and a deep engagement with many diverse community groups.

Last week, restoration specialists abseiled from the roof to inspect and assess the original sign towards its restoration and reinstatement.   Light up The National is the first stage of a long-held desire to Restore the National.  It is not easy to maintain and restore beautiful buildings, so we are thrilled to have received funding from the City of Port Phillip to support this project and engage our community as part of marking our 80th year. This is the first step in a long-term campaign to revitalise the facade.  This project has been made possible so far with the very generous support of Chair, Susan Thacore and The Scanlon Foundation.

We are now seeking your consideration and support. Please get in contact to be involved and you can also make a donation directly online through our website

The Australian National Memorial Theatre is a registered charity, all donations over $2 are tax deductible.

Thérèse Raquin
“A beautiful adaptation, with all the colour and energy of the novel, but re-imagined as pure drama.”  Daily Review

Set in the backstreets of Paris, the city of love, in the late 19th century, Thérèse Raquin is a superb examination of corrupted morals.  Married off to her sickly cousin in a loveless marriage, Therese’s life is suddenly turned around with the arrival of her husband’s friend and the beginning of a passionate, feverish and dangerous affair that risks everything. This masterpiece of French literature, adapted for the stage, is a gripping, corseted thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat. Presented by the outstanding Critical Stages and Dirty Pretty Theatre. Book Now!
