Celebrate 20 Years of Bold New Writing at PLAYSIX Festival

This week, The MC Showroom is hosting PLAYSIX, a dynamic and diverse showcase of six brand new plays, as part of the festival’s 20th anniversary season. Yes, you read that right—20 years of championing local playwrights, actors, and directors!

Would you like to join us for the celebration? We’d love for you to attend, and if you’re interested, we’d be thrilled to have your thoughts on the show for a review. While it’s a bit of a last-minute notice, we hope you can still be part of this incredible milestone.

About PLAYSIX:

Produced by Birnam Wood Theatre, PLAYSIX features six new plays, written by six talented local playwrights from Melbourne, each directed by a different visionary director. The production brings together a vibrant mix of experienced and emerging actors, creating an exciting and fresh theatre experience that showcases the best of Victoria’s creative talent.

This annual short play festival has not only become a vital platform for local writers, but many of the works originally produced in PLAYSIX have gone on to achieve significant success at other local and international festivals. With 2025 marking the 20th season and the festival’s sixth year at The MC Showroom, it’s a celebration of the bold, the innovative, and the local.

Join Us for a Night of New Stories:

“We invite you to help us celebrate two decades of risk-taking, creativity, and community in the Melbourne theatre scene. PLAYSIX has been a launchpad for new voices, and we’re thrilled to mark this incredible milestone. Let’s honour the past and ignite the next chapter together!”

We can’t wait to see audiences come together to support 20 years of producing new, local writing. Whether you’re a long-time supporter or new to the festival, we encourage you to be a part of this special occasion.
