Chris Cavill & The Prospectors EP Launch

All That You Got

All That You Got is so good to these ears that I feel cheated that it contains only five songs.  I want more…Chris Cavill is one of the brightest lights on the Australian music scene.  Go see him.  Go hear him.

– Rob Dickens, Addicted To Noise.

Loved Cavill the alt-folky, now lovin’ the worldly wise guitar-slinger.  With any luck, both take the stage at upcoming shows. Chris Lambie, Forte.

Musically inspired by the 70’s rock/grunge era of Neil Young, Tom Petty and Led Zeppelin, Chris Cavill & The Prospectors new EP, “All That You Got” serves up dirty blues anthems, crunchy rock ballads and a pair of crowd-pleasing and band-favourite covers in Ben Harper’s The Woman In You and Tom Petty’s Free Fallin’.

‘All That You Got’ goes beyond the folk stylings illustrated on the three-piece’s 2015 acoustic release “Know Your Destiny”, further illustrating the broad range of the band’s influences and translating the intensity of their live shows into a powerful recording.

Tracy McNeil & The GoodLife: June 25 album launch

With her dream band The GoodLife by her side, Canadian expat, now Australian resident, Tracy McNeil has delivered her finest release yet with her fourth studio album Thieves.  Ten songs written across three countries – the album traverses the emotional landscape of loss, the elusiveness of time and the thrill of new beginnings.

Sometimes you put a record on and you instantly know you’re going to love it. …It’s the combination of Tracy McNeil’s heartfelt openness and her ear for melody that really makes Thieves such an irresistible record. … From laid back retro rock to alt country Thieves never loses the heart of the song and that’s the essence of what Tracy McNeil does best as a songwriter, she keeps it real.

– Tim Jackson, Sound Distractions

Co-producer and engineer Shane O’Mara has applied a magical dose of Californian shimmer to the album.  Driving drum tracks and exquisite Lauren Canyon-esque vocal harmonies hark back to the halcyon days of late 70’s LA country rock.  The result is an album that begs repeated listens, proving yet again just why McNeil is held in such high regard by her peers and critics.

Thieves is being launched on Saturday June 25 @ The Bella Union, with guests Little Georgia.

Stackhouse dazzles with ‘Jack the Dancer’.

I’m not a starry eyed fan, nor possibly a fan of an individual musician. Rather, I’m a music journalist who appreciates the ‘creative spark’ inside a creative individual who can channel it into a most noteworthy song – Terri Lee

Jax Peters

The dynamic Event Coordinator and Band Booker at Mr. Boogie Man Bar situated at 160 Hoddle Street Abbotsford outshone herself recently with her three-band act of

All three bands rocked making the $10.00 entry fee worth every cent. Special mention goes out to STACKHOUSE who performed songs off their latest album, Jack the Dancer. I’ve watched Stackhouse grow from strength to strength and cultivate a note worthy following in the process.

As an original song writing band, they’ve hit the nail on the head with this album.

With their powerhouse cigar box guitar action smashing out rock layered, industrial blues, fused with smatterings of cyber electronics, it’s little wonder seriously edgy tunes like Jack the Dancer, Say Goodbye & All before punch you in the guts with intense emotional lyrics.

Jack the Dancer is a concept album with its obvious theme threaded throughout.

Adam Kovarik is the lyricist of the album and his gravelly vocals and sinuously cigar box guitar playing fuses nicely with Jake Ellis on lead cigar box and Bryan Colechin on cigar box bass. Venom on drums plays like his namesake, what more can I say.

The aptitude of Michelangelo Russo as guest musician, added an acid soup mix with his synths and loops along with brilliant keys, harmonica and trumpet.

Seriously, Jack the Dancer is probably one of the best original albums produced by a local ‘underground’ Melbourne band in a long time. Its sophisticated layering and superb mastering will definitely appeal to the intelligent punter appreciating earnest lyrics interwoven with bloody brilliant tunes.

So as the famous saying goes, ‘Do yourself the favour’ and grab a copy, it’s worth it.

SOUNDWALK COLLECTIVE WITH JESSE PARIS SMITH FEATURING PATTI SMITH | New album ‘Killer Road’ out September 2 through Bella Union/[PIAS]

New album Killer Road out September 2 through Bella Union/[PIAS]

A shimmering ambient tone, an electronic underlay to the lulling chatter of crickets, makes way for the unmistakable voice of Patti Smith, quietly intoning, ominously, “The killer road is waiting for you / like a finger, pointing in the night.” Currently premiering on Pitchfork, the album’s opening and title track can be heard here, and is out now (via iTunes).Bella Union and [PIAS]/Mushroom are thrilled to announce the release of Killer Road, a collaborative project between Soundwalk Collective, Patti Smith and Jesse Paris Smith, on 2 September, 2016.

Behind the music and concept of Killer Road is international trio Soundwalk Collective – Stephan Crasneanscki, Simone Merli and Kamran Sadeghi, plus Patti Smith’s daughter Jesse Paris Smith – who conceived an immersive exploration of the tragic death of Christa Päffgen. Better known as Nico, the Velvet Underground chanteuse and solo pioneer, Päffgen died while riding her bike on the island of Ibiza in the summer of 1988. Ironically, she’d recently got her health back, after 15 years of heroin addiction. It was Nico’s body’s reaction to its new sobriety, and the fact she was cycling at the hottest time of the day, on the hottest day of the year, that was to prove her undoing.

In the years before she died, Nico had not neglected her creative muse, writing poetry that would never be published, or heard, until now, in the form of the opening title track, ‘Killer Road’. The tracks that follow are eight interpretations of Nico lyrics, predominantly taken from classic albums such as Desertshore and Drama Of Exile, arranged by fellow poet and kindred spirit Patti Smith.

The roots of Killer Road lie in a fortuitous meeting on an airplane bound for New York. One passenger was Patti Smith; the other was Soundwalk Collective founder Crasneanscki. Soundwalk had previously been a collaborative series of walking guides to cities that created an idiosyncratic and evocative understanding for the listener, before evolving into musical frameworks for field recordings and sight specific sound installations and performances using a variety of texts and themes.

Killer Road was initially a live audio-visual experience, at the French Institute Alliance Francaise in New York as part of 2014’s Crossing the Line festival, with subsequent performances taking place in London and Berlin. Finally, we now we have the recorded version, a poignant, profound, imaginative exploration and tribute nearly 30 years after that fateful summer’s day.

The Bon Scotts Main Street Single Launch

THE BON SCOTTS

After taking a large part of 2015 off and almost calling it quits, The Bon Scotts’ love of performing and writing has thankfully been renewed.  Which will be music to the ears for the many friends and fans they’ve made since forming back in 2010.

That energy and re commitment to the cause has seen the band inspired to return to the studio, where they remain bunkered down – writing a new record, due for release in March 2017.

But you won’t have to wait until then to hear something new from the Melbourne 6-piece new folk outfit.

‘Main Street’ is the 1st single from The Bon Scott’s upcoming new album When I’m Lonely I Still Think Of You, and will be launched with a free home-town show at The Spotted Mallard on July 16.

The video for ‘Main Street’, shot by the band, was made from footage taken at the Coburg Race Rally on Saturday 28th May 2016.  The song looks at the anger and violence from both sides of the fence, examining the need for conversation and empathy instead of name calling and ignorance.  Main Street asks the question – “Can either side be part of the solution when they often seem to be the root cause of the problem?”

Recorded at lead singer/guitarist Damien Sutton’s own Cubcave Studios, ‘Main Street’captures the band’s frenetic live energy, with sweet mandolin, dancing drums, gritty and driving bass, and comes complete with The Bon Scott’s trade-mark raucously infectious sing along vocals.

Come catch The Bon Scotts in all their live glory at the launch of Main Street!

Saturday July 16 @ The Spotted Mallard – 314 Sydney Rd, Brunswick.

With special guests Matt Glass & James Maloney

Doors open at 8pm, and entry is free!

The track is available from Bandcamp, iTunes and Spotify.

Head on over to the band’s website and click your way thru.

Ninoosh debut EP Town of Two Hundred
Release Date: June 19th, 2016

“Anya’s breathy vocals on Palms are striking, ethereal and the standout element of the track, as she adds a further sense of moody, almost haunting, atmosphere with her singing – which combines magnificently to the overall lush, reverb heavyinstrumental segments and jazzy percussion.”
Whono’s Music

“Ninoosh combines samples, synths, voice, and muted brass to build rich and exploratory works. The results can be fun, surprising and connective, just as much as they can be welcomingly cold, angular and disconcerting.” – Maddy Mac – Homebrew on PBS 106.7fm

Anya Trybala AKA Ninoosh has crafted her own woozy, experimental and emotive sounds and is set to release her debut EP, Town of Two Hundredthrough Synth Babe Records on June 19, 2016.

Recorded, mixed and mastered at Sound Machine Studios with all-round engineering wizard, Paul Lambert and mastered by Dave Cooper, the EP features the musical talents of cellist, Jess Keeffe (Glasfrosch) drummer Patrick Nicholas (Royston Vasie) vocalists, Eddie Fitzpatrick and also Manny Sharrad (Infusion).

Having recently moved from the bustle of Melbourne to the depths of the Swedish countryside, The title Town of Two Hundred pays homage to the tiny town of Sandsjöfors in the Sweden, where she first started tinkering with Ableton Live and making sketches of sounds in 2012.

The EP spans works from her days in the pop-acoustic band, The Eventual Contenders through to her recent experiences of mental health battles and responding to the political climate in Australia.

Ninoosh hopes to return to Australia in the 2016/2017 summer to showcase her new sounds.

TROY CASSAR-DALEY announces ‘Things I Carry Around’

Troy Cassar-Daley generic - resize

It is said that in art it takes a lifetime to make something appear extremely simple. Troy Cassar-Daley has honed and crafted his music so beautifully throughout the course of his career it is seemingly effortless, honest and true. Troy is, amongst many things, a living treasure of Australian country music and a great chronicler of the human heart.

As Troy picks up the pen again, he shares his stories for the first time in written word with the release of his book Things I Carry Around. Inspired by the writing of the book, Troy has recorded his tenth solo album (also called Things I Carry Around) full of new songs, but more so a standalone album that encapsulates Troy as a singer/songwriter in a more relaxed and organic musical environment. Troy’s stories of his own family, love and loss have been woven into song and will take his audiences on a journey throughout his life.

Book Artwork - Things I Carry Around

“Troy’s a true gentleman, warm and genuine, always a pleasure to be around. He sings straight from his heart and straight from the heart of his country” – Paul Kelly

“Australia’s most consistently excellent country artist.” – The Australian

With a career spanning 26 years that has produced 9 studio albums with multiple Gold and Platinum sales achievements, 4 ARIA Awards, 32 Golden Guitars, 2 APRA Song of the Year Awards, 9 Deadlys, 4 CMAA Entertainer of the Year Awards and the 2008 Country Music Association of America Country Music Global Artists Award, makes Troy Cassar-Daley one of Australia’s most awarded and highly regarded singer/songwriters in country music.

Things I Carry Around will be released on Friday 26 August 2016 via Liberation Music.

In Things I Carry Around (the book), Troy writes candidly and with humour about the early days, his rise to the top of the country music scene and the people and places that have shaped his path, revealing a fierce attachment to his family and his Indigenous heritage. A hard-working, fun-loving and prodigiously talented youngster, Troy grew into the role of country music superstar with charm and humility – and along the way met the woman who stole his heart. While Troy’s path to success wasn’t always smooth, his irrepressible nature and determination ensured what others might have seen as obstacles didn’t slow him down. Instead, they made him who he is today.

With a dry wit and generous heart, in Things I Carry Around Troy Cassar-Daley at last tells the story his fans have been waiting to hear. His own.

Co-author Tom Gilling is a respected journalist and acclaimed novelist whose books include The Sooterkin, a New York Times Notable Book, Dreamland and Seven Mile Beach.

To coincide with the release of the book Troy is pleased to announce a number of launch events throughout August and September. All tickets are on sale now.

Chris Cavill & The Prospectors ‘All That You Got’ EP release & tour

CC&TheProspectors_Bar Photo

In 2015 singer/songwriter Chris Cavill made a successful return to the Australian music scene releasing his most ambitious record to date, ‘Know Your Destiny’.

Reinvigorated after a lengthy break from the music business, Cavill re-emerged with his new band The Prospectors and toured the album to great feedback from the Australian folk/blues scene.

“High shelf from the get go…One of my favourite albums of the year so far.” – Music Mainline

“Highly recommended.” – Independent Australia

Twelve months later, Chris Cavill & The Prospectors are back, a whole lot louder and plugged-in.  Shifting from the folk sounds into a more blues-rock direction, the band has gone full electric, translating the high-energy intensity of their live shows into a powerful recording.

Musically inspired by the 70’s rock/grunge era of Neil Young, Tom Petty and Led Zeppelin, their 2016 EP, “All That You Got” (out June 24) yields dirty blues anthems, crunchy rock ballads and a pair of crowd-pleasing and band-favourite covers.  ‘All That You Got’ goes beyond the folk stylings illustrated on last year’s release, showcasing the depth of the band’s influences and abilities.

You can catch the band as they tour the East Coast from end of June and throughout July.

Tanzer Vinyl EP Launch

Tanzer is the dark and dazzling solo project for Melbourne-based musician and composer Hayley Foster. Named for her maternal German family (and not a European dancing career), Tanzer spins tales of OTT love affairs and fabulous heartbreak with a haughty glare and a swelling, thumping soundscape. Equal parts dreamy, stark and seductive, Tanzer conjures 60s film soundtracks, new-wave divas and otherworldly exotica – but ultimately lives in a genre all her own.

Hayley, what do you think is the key to making a “great” song?

I think ‘great’ is so open to interpretation that it’s impossible to formulate. I’m never completely satisfied with my own music – and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
What has been your inspiration behind creating this EP?
Life and love and the loss of. Like billions before me.
How did it become that you are now working in music, what do you most love about the form?
It found me – I was discouraged from music as a child but had a head full of songs since I was extremely young.
What sets Melbourne’s live music scene apart from others around Australia and the world?
I think there are exciting scenes everywhere, I feel a community of performers is the sum of the friendships and collaborations forged – Melbourne alone has so many different pockets of cool stuff happening right now. I can’t wait till we all meet each other! Imagine.
If you where stuck on a desert island, what five things would you bring with you?
A magic infinite water machine, a genie in a bottle, sunscreen, a beautiful lover and a private plane.
