Caravan Music Club, East Bentleigh – 1 June 2019

With special guests – Paul Dempsey (Something For Kate), Billy Miller (The Ferrets, Jesus Christ Superstar, Paul Kelly) & Tracy Kingman (James Reyne, Brian Cadd, Stars)

CANYON perform their unique blend of American Alt Country, Folk and Westcoast harmony in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young’s Woodstock performance, at Caravan Music Club on 1 June.

Woodstock, with its audience of 400,000, was only the second gig for the band from Los Angeles that went onto become known as a Folk-Rock supergroup. Made up of American singer-songwriters David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Neil Young with English singer-songwriter Graham Nash, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young are major influence on Canyon and the distinctive sound of their original music.

“As a harmony group we know that vocal arrangements are a time-consuming labour of love and Crosby Stills Nash & Young set the blueprint. Their songs have stood the test of time and their influence is omni-present. Canyon looks forward to celebrating their milestone Woodstock anniversary and paying our respects to a band that were politically fierce and musically even better,” said Peter Chapman.

Other artists from the ‘Laurel Canyon – Westcoast’ tradition of the 60’s and 70’s that inspire Canyon’s repertoire and originals are America, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, The Band, Little Feat, Seals & Crofts, Emmy Lou Harris, and Joni Mitchell.

Special guests Paul Dempsey (Something For Kate & his solo albums and tours), Billy Miller (The Ferrets, Jesus Christ Superstar, Paul Kelly) & Tracy Kingman (James Reyne, Brian Cadd, Stars), join Canyon at The Caravan. Canyon’s line-up is singer, songwriter and guitarist Peter Chapman, singer Louise Dempsey (yes, Paul’s sister), Bruce Packard (Coolgrass, Concordia Mandolin Orchestra), Josh Bennett (Davidson Brothers, The Bombay Royale), Robi Parolin (Aus Bee Gees Show) and Scott Griffiths (Mark Seymour & The Undertow).

Canyon blends acoustic and electric instruments, including guitars, mandolin, basses, drums and percussion, at times singing around a single condenser mic in a traditional Bluegrass style, to create simply beautiful music. You’ll hear some of the greatest songs ever written, along with Canyon’s originals about deserts, forests, raging water, open highways and broken hearts, performed in four-part harmonies by a stellar line up of musicians.

Canyon are touring regional Victoria on the Café Culture Tour in August and September 2019.
