CAKE DADDY
By Ross Anderson-Doherty & Lachlan Philpott
Directed by Alyson Campbell
FEBRUARY 3 – 10

A hilarious, heartfelt and delicious cabaret experience, Cake Daddy follows one man’s journey from highly successful calorie-counting Slimmer of the Year – ‘balls-deep in diet culture’ – to his life-changing encounter with his glorious inner fat superhero, Cake Daddy.
Irish stage sensation Ross Anderson-Doherty stars in the electric Cake Daddy, bringing his personal experience and phenomenal voice to the stage in this inventive queer hybrid of disco-pop, cabaret and theatre.
Cake Daddy skewers the ridiculousness of diet culture, belting sassy songs and playing interactive games — with stickers! — before taking us on a very personal journey towards accepting and loving oneself through a queer response to the phobia that exists around diverse bodies.
Be moved, and maybe even sing along, as Ross joyfully, angrily and uproariously unpacks the intricacies of this weighty issue through song, conversation and cake – baked fresh every day.

THE BUTCH MONOLOGUES
★★★★ – THE AGE
UNTIL FEB 3 | 9:00pm
“If you’re sick of hearing about “toxic masculinity”, this is the perfect antidote: beautifully crafted vignettes rippling with humour and humanity, struggle and desire.” ★★★★
– Cameron Woodhead, The Age
“As a work of art, it’s hilarious, shocking and incredibly poignant, and a pertinent reminder that all identifications – especially the ones modern queer theory might like to leave behind – remain vital ingredients in that alphabet soup.” ★★★★
– Tim Byrne, Time Out Melbourne
“These stories are just not seen on our stages. So grateful forTheatre Works for programming this work and all the people who told their stories. And what beautiful performers.”
– Daniel Clarke, Arts Centre Melbourne
“The Butch Monologues is utterly excellent and I highly recommend you get a ticket and go. Warm, hot, sweet, sour, some bitter. All the flavours and sensations. Like you want a Midsumma show to be!”
– Carla Donnelly, Across the Aisle
“The warmth in the auditorium was something I’ve only experienced on community nights at blackfella shows”
– Carissa Lee, Witness Performance
TRULY MADLY BRITNEY
An Outrageous New Comedy by Alberto Di Troia
JANUARY 19 – FEBRUARY 9 | 7:00pm

– Cameron Woodhead, The Age
“Di Troia, director Hannah Fallowfeld and a cast of six balance domestic tragedy and ludicrous sitcom with astonishing dexterity. No taboo is off-limits or too off-colour in this rather manic and fearless farce.”
– Chris Boyd, The Australian
“Still hurting from Truly Madly Britney at Theatre Works. Tearing the skin off pop obsession with fake nails & no pain killers. New writing, old hits & f*cking hilarious.”
– Anne-Marie Peard, Sometimes Melbourne

SHE IS VIGILANTE
SUBMISSIONS CLOSE FEB 07

Women writers are invited to create short performance works as part of SHE IS VIGILANTE at Theatre Works.
A new project directed by Krystalla Pearce and Bridget Balodis, SHE IS VIGILANTE will celebrate and investigate women vigilantes.
“We’re talking women who take the law into their own hands, fight for justice, do bad things because they have to – their missions can be global or minute, based on true stories or from another world completely,” says co-director Bridget Balodis.
SHE IS VIGILANTE is seeking four writers who identify as women to devise and write scripts. The call out is to writers across a range of ages, experiences and cultural backgrounds. New writers, writers new to performance, trans women, and non-binary folk are encouraged to apply.
