I stocked this wine for some years and drank it from time to time. And always thought it to be a good drink and a bit of a crowd pleaser.
However, I opened this bottle Friday night, enjoyed a glass, had another glass Saturday night and finished it off with Sunday lunch. This wine just kept on giving and giving.
The first thing to evolve was the nose of the wine with fresh sun-ripened plums with sweet dark cherry hints that leant towards elegant, the longer it was opened with faint notes of oak, dusty tannins and the ripe dark fruit on full display by lunch on Sunday.
In the mouth: A flourish of soft integrated tannins washed across the palate alive with bright fruit flavours that could only be McLaren Vale, this 2019 vintage has just rekindled my love affair with this sometimes overlooked wine region, resulting in a wine of quality and finesse, for under $30.00
I enjoyed this wine with thin, hard, crisp crackers and a sharp English cheddar from the South Melbourne Market.
Good cheese and wine, nothing else needed.
