Lauren Minear has had an exciting journey through music. From being mentored by Steve Earle and George Marinelli (Bonnie Raitt’s guitar player) at age 14, to graduating from NYU and Yale, and becoming a trained therapist – it was only during the pandemic that Minear made her big move back to music.
Three albums later, Minear now releases Boxing Day, fronting her multi-faceted and cross-disciplinary experience. Where her previous album dealt with female rage and the problems faced by women in the industry, Boxing Day dives into themes of anger, codependency and conflict with those we hold most dear.
Most excitingly, Minear makes new strides with this record as its first single, “Lightweight” will be considered at the Grammys this year.
Indeed, Minear’s lyrical precision and vulnerable vocal performance stands out as her distinct artistry. Tracks like “Bruise” show the songwriter’s more pensive side, while “This Love” and “Bullshit” seamlessly maintain that narrative surety within upbeat rhythms and dynamic sonic landscapes.
The deeper Minear plunges into her songwriting, the further she rises. And we can’t wait for every bit of it.
