The newly formed Adelaide Baroque Orchestra will present an all Bach program on Saturday 19 October at 8.00pm in St Peter’s Cathedral.

The Orchestra will be joined by the Adelaide Chamber Singers, directed by Carl Crossin OAM and special guest soprano Bonnie de la Hunty from Perth.

The concert program for Cathedral Bach features iconic works by JS Bach including: Brandenburg Concerto No 5 BWV 1050; Motet ‘Jesu meine Freude’ BWV 227; Brandenburg Concerto No 4 BWV 1049 and Cantata ‘Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen’ BWV 51.

Formed in 2018 the Adelaide Baroque Orchestra has between16 and 20 players mainly Adelaide-based. Performing with period-style instruments and earlier playing styles the Orchestra will also commission new works from young composers.

Founding Orchestra member and violone player Rob Nairn, who taught historical performance at New York’s Juilliard School of Music for 14 years before returning to Adelaide said, ‘We have some incredible Baroque musicians here in Adelaide who have studied early music and historical performance, and this goes back to when Adelaide Baroque ensemble began 40 years ago.’

Soprano Bonnie de la Hunty specialises in Baroque and Classical repertoire, art song, and traditional folk song. She completed her Bachelor of Music at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA, Edith Cowan University), awarded as top faculty graduate; her Masters in Singing at the Royal Academy of Music, London; and Artist Diploma in Early Music at the Koninklijk Conservatorium, The Hague, Netherlands. Bonnie was recently the soloist for the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra’s ‘Noël! Noël!’ tour (2018), Perth Symphony Orchestra’s ‘Baroque by Candlelight’ tour (2019), and WASO Chorus’ ‘Northern Lights’ concert (2019).

Having participated in the Franz Schubert Institut of German lieder in Baden (2017), Austria, and WAAPA’s International Art Song Festival (2014 and 2015), in the past year she gave regular song recitals in the Netherlands, France, and Australia.
